Gelsey Kirkland

Ms. Kirkland began her ballet training at the School of American Ballet. She joined the New York City Ballet in 1968 in the corps de ballet. She was promoted to the rank of Soloist in 1970, and to Principal in 1972. She defected from NYCB in 1974, and joined American Ballet Theatre as a Principal Dancer. Throughout her career, she accumulated a vast repertoire. She also wrote two autobiographies: Dancing on My Grave, and The Shape of Love.
