Mr. Askegard began his dance training in Minneappolis, Minnesota at the Minnesota Dance Theatre. He studied there until he was 16. In 1983, he spent the summer studying at the School of American Ballet. In 1987, he joined American Ballet Theatre as a member fo the corps de ballet, and then was promoted to Soloist in 1992. In 1997, he left ABT to join NYCB as a Soloist, and was promoted to Principal Dancer in 1998.
