Science and Technology Dabbler

A1.Read about pH in the Handbook andand did the Radish pH Tester activity and the Acid Rain activity. We tested household products to see if they were acids or bases. We tested orange juice, tomato juice, milk, tap water, pool water, alcohol, iodine, ammonia, baking soda (mixed with tap water), windex, and salt (mixed with tap water)

D2.Became paper engineers, making straws, cups, bridges, buildings, staues and lots of origami.
G2.Fingerprinted ourselves and compared them, then fingerprinted a parent, and compared with them.
H2.Talked about different ways that science or math can help people in their jobs.
I2.Used a calculator to solve the problems and made up some other problems.

Sky Search

Completed 1/6/01

1. We obtained star maps for our location and time of year. learned how to read them, and learned the different symbols.

2. Learned which planets are visible to the naked eye. We were able to see Venus and Jupiter.
3. With the help of our star maps, we were able to locate seventeen different constellation and two planets.
5. Told some stories about the constellation, how they were named, and why.
8. We discussed what a solar system is, explainging the differences between planets, suns, moons, stars,asteroids, meteors, comets and more.
13. Planned an evening of astronomy activities at a camporee and shared this with a Brownie troop.
