PRESERVED Jude 14:1 (Jude 1:1-2 KJV) Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called: {2} Mercy unto you, and peace and love, be multiplied. It is believed that Jude is the half-brother of Jesus (Mat. 13:55). It is not known who he is writing to in his day. There is no mention of a geographic location of a church. He does tell and encourage the readers to be aware of false teachers and be ready to fight for the faith. He is writing to those who are sanctified by God and are preserved in Jesus Christ. Many had succumbed to heresy and false doctrine, but there were some who had been preserved in Jesus. In verse 24 he tells again how that Jesus is able to keep you from stumbling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy. PRESERVED- to guard (from loss or injury, prop. by keeping the eye upon; and thus differing from G5442, which is prop. to prevent escaping; and from G2892, which implies a fortress or full military lines of apparatus), i.e. to note (a prophecy; fig. to fulfil a command); by impl. to detain (in custody; fig. to maintain); by extens. to withhold (for personal ends; fig. to keep unmarried):--hold fast, keep (-er), (ob-, pre-, re) serve, watch. Even in the midst of false doctrine, trials, temptations, and church problems, Jesus is able to keep us. He is able to preserve us in Him. He is guarding us. 1. Temptations. You have to wash the fruit that you are going to preserve real good. Jesus washes us with his Word. He is able to preserve us cause he is at work getting out all the stuff that would cause us to rot. God is guarding you! God is washing the carnal desires away. It is the fleshly man that is tempted. He is the one who must be cleansed. He is able to preserve us in temptation. Most heresies come because of the desire to give into temptation. Some feel that they can get away from calling it sin if the church sanctions it. We can sin and still be religious. a. Golden calf. Moses came off the mountain with the Ten Command- ments. Israel had fallen into sin. It was religious. They admitted that they had been in bondage and now were out of bondage. But they gave the credit to a god that would not speak out against their sin. Moses said, "Who is on the Lord's side among you?" There were some who did not give in to the temptation to be like everyone else. There were some who would be preserved in their faith in God. Sin was everywhere. b. This is an evil world we live in. There are temptations each day we live. But where evil abounds grace does much more abound. The worse this world gets, the more grace God sends to us. (1 Cor 10:13 KJV) There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. God will give the avenue of escape. He will preserve us in Jesus. c. Daniel would not eat the king's meat. God preserved him. (1 Th 5:23 KJV) And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. When you make fruit preserves you wash the fruit. He will wash us with the water of his word. We are picked and separated. 2. Trials. God is guarding you. It is He who has the oven switch in his hand. He will preserve us when we go through trials. He will keep us. You put preserves under a heat to bring out the syrup. a. Three Hebrew boys were preserved. (Psa 121:7-8 KJV) The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. {8} The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore. God preserved them coming in and going out. (2 Tim 4:18 KJV) And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. (1 Pet 1:5 KJV) Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. (John 10:29 KJV) My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. It is God that begins the work of grace and He that carries it on. He will perfect it. b. You cook preserves slow and over a low heat. The trial gets hot and sometimes it last a long time. But the slow cooking brings out the syrup. Your trial will bring the real you out for the world to see. We have this treasure in earthen vessels. There is treasure in us. The trial just brings the real "you" to the surface. c. (1 Th 3:8 KJV) For now we live, if ye stand fast in the Lord. Joseph had a dream and God preserved it. God wouldn't let it die. The trial you are going through cannot destroy your dream, vision, ministry, or home because God will preserve it. 3. Church. You add sugar to the fruit and syrup. After this you make sure that it is sealed. a. Add sugar. Jesus will add the sugar. He will preserve me by what he adds to my life. (Psa 119:103 KJV) How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth! (2 Cor 2:15 KJV) For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish: We are sweet by the work he does. Church is sweet. We are sweet to those who are saved. We are sweet to the lost because we bring the good news. b. Seal. Jesus will not let anything in that would spoil the preserve. We are sealed so that nothing can get in. (Eph 1:13 KJV) In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
