We started with a couple of purchases of about 40lbs. of Figi and Tonga rock being picky about the pieces so we could build a good base.
We found this Florida Aquaculture Rock. This was a great buy with alot of life on it. There was alot of bad stuff too. We have been cleaning it up for the past week. But it was well worth the price and time. The colors are really nice. There was a Spiny Oyster attached to the rock. There are also a number of Christmas Tree Worms, which are really neat. Clams of all sorts, Snails,& Brittle Stars.
I was told not to buy this site unseen because some of the aquaculture rock is lifeless and really bad. So buyer beware, look before you buy!
Inhabitants are a Yellow Tang, Tomato Clown,a Purple Star Fish, a White Star Fish, numerous Brittle Stars, and the usual cleanup crew.
The tank is not drilled. We purchased this set up used from someone who had it set up for a 35 gallon tank. We upgraded the sump to the proper size. We added a 1/4 horse chiller to the system, protein skimmer, and a proper pump, and metal halide pendents with the blue actinic tubes.
We are now in the process of purchasing another 125 gallon setup and are considering this tank for propagating coral cuttings.
This hobby is addictive so beware. We now have an reef room instead of a reef tank.
The fact is the creatures grow and you do run out of room.
