Ezekiel 38:1-2
"Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal: And I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth part of thee, and will cause thee to come up from the north parts, and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel."

Some maps show Meschech in Northern Turkey (The Revell Bible Dictionary, 1990). Gog is the prince of Rosh, Meshech and Tubal. His territory was known as the land of Magog. (The International Standard Bible Encyclopedia) The one thing we know for sure is that these tribes come from the north of Israel.

Jerusalem is at about 35 Degrees longitude. We know that biblically, The Babylonian Empire was considered to be a Northern Army that was a first fulfillment of some of these prophecies. Babylon attacked Israel from the north in 586 BC. In those days, Babylon stretched from 32 Degrees longitude to 64 Degrees longitude. That empire included Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Northern Egypt and part of Turkey as we reckon them today.

Using the biblical precedent of 32 Degrees to 64 Degrees, the following nations become possible candidates for an attack against Israel in the near future: Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Russia.

Moscow is at 37 Degrees, 14.00 East
Jerusalem is at 35 Degrees, 13.00 East
Tobolsk is at 68 Degrees East

The Tobol River runs from approximately 60 Degrees East to 68 Degrees East. This is in Western Russia and Siberia. It is 1042 miles long and rises in the SE foothills of the Ural Mountains in N Kazakhastan and flows NNE through E Chelyabinsk, Kurgan, and Tyumen oblasts to the Irtysh river at Tobolsk. This town was very near the ancient Cossack town of Isker, the Cossack name of which was Siber, which gave it's name to Siberia.

The Moskva River, which Moscow sits upon, is 315 miles long and flows E, through Moscow city to join the Oka River just below Kolomna. It therefore runs from about 35 Degrees East to 38 Degrees East.

There is one other city very close to the name of Meshech. It is Meshchovsk, in Russia, at about 35.2 Degrees East: Directly north of Jerusalem.

In a recent move that may be heading in the direction of making these events a near term possibility, Turkey has reestablished ties with Iraq. Click on the link following to the related article in the Washington Post. Turkey Warms To Iraq
