This candle is placed on this page in the memory of my sister, who'se life was snuffed out far too early at the hands of a murderer. This candle and the memory of my sister burns eternal on the internet.

HOW FLORIDA EXECUTES THE CONDEMNED
The State of Florida has prescribed electrocution as the form of execution of penalty of death. The inmate is strapped into a chair specially designed for this purpouse. The chair pictured is one recently built by department of Correction personnel. This chair replaced the original "'Ol Sparky".Two electrodes are used in the process. One is built into a helmet, and consists of a copper wire mesh, and is further complimented by a natural sea sponge
which has been saturated with a solution of water and salt. ( the solution is saturated with salt for the most efficient conductivity, and the least resistance.).
The other electrode is a turned brass electrode that is attached to the shaved leg of the condemned, again complomented with a salt laiden salve for conductivity.
To prep the condemned, the head and the right leg is shaved. Thei inmate is then strapped into the chair, and electrodes are placed. The warden stands by a phone that is directly linked to the office of the Governor, in anticipation of any stay of the execution.
Provided there is no stay granted, the warden approves the commencement of the execution. The panel is energized by way of two key controlled switches. This panel takes entire control of the electrocution proces.
The first charge is admimistered at a rate of roughly 2000 volts at 9 amps, followed ten seconds later by 650 volts at the same amperage, followed by a third jolt of 2000 volts. This process assures that the condemned is dead. On certification of death, the remains are removed from the chair, and brought to the office of the medical examiner for autopsy. Inmates who are executed are autopsied for the simple reason that state law requires that all persons in the custody of the state at the time of death must be autopsied, regardless of the assumed cause of death. It seems pretty futile to autopsy executed inmates, but the autopsy is required for the above stated reason, and so that a history of the care of the inmate can be established by the condition of the inmate's health at the time of execution.
UPDATE ON 2-23-00
The State of Florida has approved Lethal Injection as the new mode of execution, thus seting a precidence in that the Electric Chair will be phased out. Currently some inmates will be given a choice of execution methods. Once those currently condemned are executed, future inmates will be required to adhere to Lethal Injection. Looks like I have to do some work on this page, NO? Currently I don't have any photos of Florida's new gurney, but when I do, you can rest assured I will feature them on this site.

THE STATE SUPREME COURT RELEASES PICTURES OF THE ALLEN DAVIS EXECUTION
The death penalty came to the surface of the news recently with the execution of Alen Davis in the electric chair. Davis's execution was the first in the new chair. What happened during the execution raised controvercy and great debate. Many opinions were formed, and publicized (including this one). As evidenced by the view, the chain of events was unforseen and unexpected. Seconds before the jolts were applied, Davis' nose begun to bleed.

JUST HOW COMFORTABLE IS A CONDEMNED INMMATE SUPPOSED TO BE?
When the face mask was strapped into place, some of Davis' features were scrunched up as a result of Davis being obese. It was speculated that when the mask was placed on Mr. Davis' face, it was placed too tightly, resulting in partial asphyxiation. However, it has been established that Mr. Davis died with no undue pain or suffering. Far from the comparison of the undue pain and suffering that his victims, A three month pregnant woman, and two little girls, suffered.

MY POSTING OF THESE PICTURES
I found it necessary to post these pictures to compare Mr Davis' death with that of his three (Some would argue that he killed 4) victims. Mr Davis died after being stunned by the administration of 2000 volts, literally erasing his ability to feel pain, or to be cognizant of what was happening. Im comparison, the pictures of his victims was so gruesome that neither I or anyone else would even consider posting them. Davis tied up his victims, shot them, and beat the 5 year old girl so hard that her brains had begun to expell from her skull. In Comparison, Mr Davis' nosebleed is far from gruesome, or cruel or unusual punishment.
THE NEXT TWO TO BE EXECUTED
Terry Sims, convicted in Florida of killing an off duty policeman during the robbery of a pharmacy. Sims' execution was stayed while the Supreme court reviews the information on Davis' execution.
UPDATE ON 2-23-00
Early this morning, Terry Sims became the first condemned inmate to be put to death by lethal injection, thus setting an important milestone in the history of Florida's justice system. His execution this morning has changed the judicial system in that appeals will now be processed in a more expedient manner, and thus the state of Florida will see justice carried out in the same expedient manner. I for one as a supporter of the death penalty see this as an important step, and as a victory to the cause.
ANTHONY BRIAN was convicted in Florida of slaying a night watchman for a seafood company. Brian had borrowed some tools for the watchman, and thanked him by kidnapping him, and taking him to a riverbed, tying hom up, throwing him into the river, and killing him with a shotgun blast to the head at point blank range.
Bryan is scheduled to die in the early hours of 2-24-2000 granted all stays are lifted, and the execution is allowed to progress.
UPDATE ON 2-24-00
Early this morning Anthony Brian became the second persn to die on Florida's new lethal injection gourney. Anthony went to his death claiming that he didn't remember his crime, and didn't deserve to die for it. However no stays were granted, and Brian became the next person executed by lethal injection.

NATURE TAKES JUSTICE IN HER OWN HANDS
Department Of Correction officials released the news that Marvin Johnson, a convicted murderer on Death Row had a heart attack in his cell, and died later on after attempts to revive him failed News was released on 22 November 1999. The new Millenium will start out that much better without him. Johnson was sentenced to death in the 1978 slaying of a pharmacist, and was on Death Row since 1979. He had 4 death warrents to his credit. Apperantly nature had had enough of this prick, and decided to carry out justice in a more expedient manner.
Johnson now faces his victim, and justice of a higher authority.
THE LONG ROAD TO THE NEEDLE
This is the main entrance into Florida State Prison, often the last ride for inmates facing the death penalty in Florida.
This is also known as the "Road To Hell". Don't want to go down this road? Think twice before going out and killing someone!

and the Death Chamber
Dead man's last few steps around the corner.
This is supposed to be the inmates view as he takes the last few steps down the hall into the execution chamber, where the corrections officer stands in waiting to strap the inmate into the chair. Other accounts hold this to be the executioner's view. The executioner has an easy day ahead of him. The executioner will be paid $150 for performing the service of turning the key that will start the electrocution process.
JUSTICE'S FINAL STOP
This is The Supreme Court Of The United States. The Supreme Court has the last say, and once the judges in here decide that there is no reason to stay the execution, the inmate is pretty much done.
JUSTICE ON THE OTHER COAST
California's gas chamber. Inmates are usually put to death nowadays by lethal injection, but the chamber is still maintained in perfect working order in case the inmate decides to instead be put to death by lethal gas.
The gas is produced by dropping sodium cyanide into a vat of weak hydrochloric acid, resulting in hydrocyanic gas and a solution of prussic acid (The gas is what kills the condemned, and death may take a few minutes.).The interesting green glow inside the chamber ia caused by special lighting used inside the chamber. Because the gas is highly volatile, special light tubes must be used to avoid an explosion. Those lights produre that green color.
