My Ruth Wind Page

I wrote this review while still quite moved from the powerful story. It is a SSE that is a highly emotional read. It is about a 150-year old feud between two warring families, one Hispanic the other Anglo. Young teenagers, Elias and Sarah, dare to defy their families and allow their love free reign, which they themselves know to be taboo. They run away together to elope and then change their minds and on their return into town, are met with a slew of policemen. The hispanic youth boy is hand-cuffed and hauled away to jail, which wounds his pride, to have it done to him in front of his woman. She is sent away to an unwed mothers home and forced to give their child up for adoption. The story then jumps forward in time twelve years, where the h/h meet up again, having not seen each other in that whole time. Both are extremely scarred from the past events, but still powerfully attracted to each other. The story is unbelievably sad, but I found it to be a wonderful read. From prologue to epilogue, it is a well-written book. Although I may never read it again, too heartrenching, I can not allow myself to part with it. So if you are in the mood for a great book, with Hispanic flavor, then I highly recommend this book.

This Silhouette Intimate Moment is the second book that I have enjoyed by Ms Wind. It was special to me for personal reasons. It is about a young woman, Molly, finding a wounded immigrant passed out on her land and she takes him into her home, nursing him and virtually saving his life. She learns he had been shot the night before when a neighboring farm was raided for illegals by authorites. Amongst the chaos, Alejandro's eight year old niece escapes and is lost in the orchards. Molly knows she can not keep the man's whereabouts secret for long as her brother is a sheriff deputy that is very bitter towards the large number of illegals that come to the States. She has a compassionate soul though and sees what a decent and honorable man Alejandro is. He has come to America for his niece, whom his deceased sister wants him to raise in America. When the child is found near death, due to tuberculosis, Molly agrees to marry Alejandro so he can get a green card. But everything changes in her life, as the whole town looks down on her for what she has done. This story touches down on both sides of the cultural fence and makes you look at this issue with a clearer prospective of why this is such a touchy subject to Americans and Mexicans alike. And as God intended, we are all precious and equal in his sight. I enjoyed this book a great deal!

This was a great book!

This is a Harper historical written in this author's true name. I have come to know the style of this writer and there is nothing humorous about her stories. Her books are about real and serious issues faced by people even in today's society.

Tess Fallon, an Irish beauty, weds a brash Irishman to keep herself from starving and soon realizes her husband is truly an evil man at heart. They travel to the United States and he takes on slaves to toil his land. He is unmercifully cruel to the slaves and the animals, which sickens Tess. She steps in to save a slave from a severe lashing and is beaten herself, causing her to loss her child. On her near recovery, Tess along with the slave, flees the abusive man. On the journey, her traveling party is raided by savages and once again, her life is spared.

Joaquin Morales and his companions stumble upon the ravaged site and find the two women huddled together, near hysteria. Tess sees the tall, dark skinned man and panics, as she thinks he is an Indian as well. Joaquin senses this and feels sadness for what the women had suffered. He sets out to prove his goodness and kindness to this terrified woman. Tenderly, he proves to Tess that all men are not like her husband or the brutal Indians that had attacked her.

The story is periled with ordeals that seem determined to keep this couple apart. Their love is finally consumated late in the story and it is well worth the wait. Regardless of what name this author writes under, her stories are very poignant. And her heroes are keepers!

Barbara stopped by for a visit on 6/8/00 and she sent me a sweet letter. She has given me permission to put the letter on the page. I want her other fans to see what a wonderful lady she is.

Lizzy,

Of course I remember you! And I'm deeply flattered that you designed a page for my books--thank you! :) It's quite beautifully done--you have a real talent for design (and of course I love your reviews) Thanks so much for letting me know it was here. Made my day.

Walk in beauty,
Barbara Samuel
