Amanda Richardson was afraid of becoming an old maid, so she thinks up a plan to do something daring and have a male kiss her by night's end. Only she makes an unwise choice and the guy she chooses, her father's overseer, is an evil conniving man. She is to be forced into wedding this horrid man but along comes Rene Comeaux to rescue her and offer her a way out. Amanda secretly loves Rene but she knows her father has forbidden her to have anything to do with a Cajun. Her father's broken marriage from her French mother caused him to hate and turned him into a bitter man. However she does wed Rene and her life is changed forever. She falls in love with her new Acadian family and struggles emotionally over her father and desperately wants his acceptance. Meanwhile, Rene wants his wife's love just as desperately.

This story was very heartwarming! It had a well balanced plot that successfully resolved all the relationships, from the love between a man and a woman to the love between a father and his daughter. A beautiful and caring story!
