| Lift Specs | |||||
| I wanted to design my own lift since I like to do things myself. The lift started out with the Rough Country front springs and rear AAL. I had this kit on my old 84 and was fairly happy with the front springs. The AAL are a little stiff but I like to feel the road. I then used the Tera Flex budget boost to finish it off. In the front I have the RC springs and the 2 inch Tera block to give me the height. I left the stock control arms on because I have been told that they can work at least up to 6 inches of lift. I plan on replacing them soon though. The frond end is aligned with a Rustys trac bar. The axle nut for the track bar had to be ground down, beaten, and then swore out. After all that it came out and I was able to replace it. I put on the steering linkage from a YJ to stop the caster changes while the front end flexes. Since the steering stabilizer is in a different place on the YJ I had to fab up my own bracket to attach it to the drag link. I had to adjust my steering stops in also to keep my tires from rubbing the control arms and to keep the tie rod from hitting the lower trac bar bolt head.
To extend the bump stops I glued two hockey pucks to each spring pad. I used construction adhesive for them and they haven't moved a bit since. |

I will get more in detail pictures soon!
| In the rear I used a MJ second and third leaf to give me the spring lift. The Tera Flex includes 1.5 inch lift shackles that are super beefy. I have been going though all kinds of combos with my spring pack. I started with the second and third MJ leaves then I changed to just the second and the AAL. Currently I am running just the second leaf to balence out the bad with my slightly settled front end. I did put a 1 inch T-case drop and put in shims backwards. I never really had any problems with vibes I just did this to prevent any. The back end was easy but watch out for the fron leaf spring bolts if you try to remove the springs. I left my main leaf on the rig and replaced the leaves under them. The front bolt tends to freeze to the metal sleeve inside the bushing. This stops the bolt from coming out so the only way to remove it is by cutting it on both sides of the leaf. One of mine froze and one came out so I just let them on there. I still haven't put on bumpstops but I will use MJ ones when I get to it.
Overall I like my lift, I will soon replace the control arms and some day will also take it up to 6 inches. |
