Quarter Horse Babies

Welcome to the world of new baby horses! I will attempt to share with you photos and experiences of the new babies being born here at my farm. There will be 4 babies when spring is over. Each one will be uniquie and have his/her own story to tell.

Sonic Sea Derby AQHA

Hello! My name is Derby. I was born on May 1st, 1999. But, I was considered a yearling on January 1st, 2000. In this photo I was only 5 months old. I hope we can be friends and I will tell you about all the stuff that happens to me. Check back to see what is new here at the farm.

Sonic Sea Derby 10 Months Old

I am older now, and very handsome too. Don't you think? I can get in a horse trailor and go places with the other horses. My foal coat, or baby hair, is all gone and my body is a deep red color. I am a gelding now. That means I will be easier to handle as a mature horse. It also means that I can live with other horses.
Several of the horses that live here are for sale. I am one of them. If you would like information about the sales horses you can visit the farm at S Bar J Acres
My color is called "bay". That means I have a red or brown body and a black mane, tail, & legs. The tips of my ears and my muzzle are also black. That is called "black points".

PS The buckskin horse in the background is my Daddy!

Sugar Sea Reef & Sons AQHA IBHA

This is my Daddy and my brother and I. A Daddy horse is called a "sire". My sire's name is "Sugar Sea Reef". My brother and I were just weanling colts in this photo. A colt is a young male horse. A weanling is a horse that is not yet a yearling, but no longer nurses from the Mommy horse. We'll get more into Mommy and nursing at another time. My brother has a different Mommy than I do, but same sire. My brother's name is "Sonic Sea Treasure". He is a buckskin like our sire. A buckskin is a lot like a bay, but the body color is tan or golden with black points. Remember? We talked about black points before. Treasure and I like to play run and chase games. Treasure thinks he is faster than me, but he is not! Sometimes an older horse will play with us. But most of the time they don't like us to bother them. The older horses let us know not to bother them by putting their ears flat back and swishing their tails. Sometimes, if Treasure and I are really causing trouble, they will stomp their legs and squeal at us. Then we settle down, or else one of them will chase us away. We don't like to go very far from the older horses, it might not be safe! So we try not to make them TOO mad at us!
