Nika Rose was born into the world on Apirl 25th, 1996.
She has tons of blonde locks right from the start.
And when she stared at you, your heart would melt.
She was a healthy 7lb and 9 once baby. Nika warmed
our hearts.
A year would quickly pass and Nika would grow
into a pretty young lady with long blonde locks.
Nika was perfect, or so we thought. Around the age
of a year and a half things changed. Nika was no
longer bubbley and talkative. She just laided around.
Day after day she would say.."Papa I's got me
a ouchy in my head." We started to worry.
We took Nika to the hospital. Doctors said it
was just head aches and not to worry. But Nika
continued to tell us her head hurt her. We took
her back and demanded that she be tested. Doctors
ran test after test...and after a few days...Nika
was dianosed with Childhood Medulloblastoma.
Medulloblastomas are malignant tumours formed from
primitive or poorly developed cells at a very early
stage of life. They develope in the cerebellum, in a
part of the brain called the posterior fossa, but may
spread to other parts of the brain, and very rarely to
other parts of the body. Medulloblastomas are usually
found in children, particularly between the ages of two
and eight. They make up about 20% of all childhood brain
tumours. The tumour is more common in males than females.
They can also occur in adults but are extremely rare. Nika
was in the early stages, yet doctors told us her chance
of living was still.. less than 50%. Our perfect
little girl was going to die.
Treatment was started as soon as posible. Nika's
treatment included a large dose of Chemotherapy,
which left her spending many nights throwing up.
She was very weak and lost all her pretty locks
of hair. But Nika stayed strong. Trying to pull
her way through with a smile.
The Chemo, did not work very good on Nika's tumor.
The cancer was growing. Doctors than added Radiotherapy
to Nika's treatment plan. Radiotherapy was where they
shot high engery rays into Nika's brain to kill the bad
cells and hopefuly shrink her tumor. The treatment seemed
to work. Nika's tumor had shrinken to a smaller size, which
could be removed!
Nika had just turned two years old when they planed
her surgery. It all went very well and the tumor was
removed. They kept her on Chemo just to be sure. But
Nika was showing signs of healthiness again! It was a
mircle! We believed our baby was healed....
Nika was released. Parties were thrown. Everyone
thought it would last, even her doctors. But the
cancer had a surprize for us. It was hiding in
another part of her brain, and growing fast. When
Nika went in for her monthly exam... The cancer
poped it's way out of hiding. SURPRIZE!... The
fight was not over.
The new cancer that was found, was very large.
Doctors knew they could not remove it. They put
Nika back on chemo, and told us to say our good
byes for our daughter had little time to live.
Nika's spirit never died though. She kept fighting,
out proving the doctors. Through those bright eyes
of hers she knew the world different than you and
me. Nika once said, "Pa, The world has so much to
offer, yet no one will ever see it all."
Soon she turned 3! It was a big surprize. No one
expected her to live that long. Nika was a fighter.
She loved to live. Nika started to fail days in Dec.
of 1999. She lost most of her language skills, and
lost all control of her legs and arms. She would just
stare at you with those eyes of hers...as if she was
reading your heart. I would hold her nights..humming
her favorite toons. Everyone knew the day was coming
soon.
On Jan 15th, 2000...our little girl started to scream.
We rushed to her side. I grabed her hand with tears in
my eyes. We knew this was the end. Nika Rose looked me
in the eyes..I screamed to god.." Please Oh! Please...
don't take the girl..." At 3:03 pm, Nika took her last
breath and passed on from this earth. But her memory
never left our hearts.

Can Never Not Take"
