Blues Midgets Shut Out Mobile

The Pensacola Blue Angels Midget House Rec. Team traveled to Mobile Sunday October 15th to play the Mobile Jr. Mysticks. The final score of the game had the Blues shutting out the Mysticks by a score of 2-0. Both Blue Angels scores came in the first period, and both goals were scored by Sam Kennedy. Picking up the helpers for both goals was Josh Earl. Sam's first goal came on a power play at 3:40 in the first period, and the second goal was scored on full strength at 4:07 in the first. Goalie Jason White turned away 20 shots to earn the shutout.

Petition to SAHOF Denied

AHOP members signed a petition last season requesting Zone 4 (Florida) to allow our league to officially be in Zone 3 (Gulf Coast teams) based on geography. Presently we are in Zone 4, which requires our players to travel to South Florida for play-off games. The petition was denied by Zone 4.

Mobile, Biloxi, and Baton Rouge are all within three hours of Pensacola and are all in Zone 3. Even though we are presently in Zone 4 and the closest team within our zone is Jacksonville, Fl which is 5 1/2 hours away and our regional playoffs can be as far away as Miami, FL. AHOP does not feel that playing in our regional (zone 4) championship tournament, is in the best interest of our kids if they have to travel up to 12 hours to participate in the tournament.

AHOP has an agreement with Zone 3’s GCHL (Gulf Coast Hockey League) in which we will skate in their tournaments and be scheduled in their leagues games; However, if any of our divisions win the tournament, we will not be allowed to advance to the Zone 3 Championship.

AHOP will continue to address this issue with USA Hockey’s officials in the Southeaster region and USA Hockey officials in Colorado Springs, CO.
