Raequel Miller was born in Louisiana, but she grew up in Detroit, Michigan. In high school, she studied music, such as, classical, opera, jazz and other forms. Later, her singing earned her a full scholarship to Xavier University, where she studied music and mass communication. She was discovered during a talent show at Xavier. Master P had her feature on a few No Limit albums as a background singer, and had a hit song on the, I'm Bout It Soundtrack. From that, she was signed to No Limit Records. After contributing background vocals to several No Limit projects, Mercedes, presents her own debut album, Rear End. As a child, she grew up in the church and sung for her church choir. O'Dell from Beats By the Pound attended the same church as Mercedes does, and it was he who told Master P about her. After Master P attended a mass there, he offered her a contract to come sing with No Limit. Master P had her sing in the chorus of TRU's, "Low Down & Dirty" off the hit soundtrack and movie, I'm Bout It. You can catch Mercedes soulful singing in throughout various No Limit albums. Her debut No Limit album, Rear End, dropped, in the summer of '99. Featured were Master P, Silkk, Mystikal, Fiend, Mac, and her sister, A-Lexxus. "It's Your Thing", was the smash hit from her debut album, Rear End, featuring Master P. No Limit keeps it in the family, by signing Mercedes' sister, A-Lexxus, who should drop her solo album, Let's Ride, in 2000.
