WRESTLING PHILOSOPHY

Wrestling is a microcosm of life. Both can be very difficult at times, but if excellence is pursued with integrity both can be very rewarding. Success in wrestling and life, many times is within one's reach. The problem though is that victory is sometimes hidden behind many failures.

Although Dan Gable came close, I do not know of any wrestlers who completed their careers undefeated, and yet millions of former wrestlers would say that they had positive, rewarding experiences through this sport. The reason for this is that wrestling teaches its participants to fight through the difficult losses, to continue to work hard, and to never give up on their goals.

In wrestling victory is the goal, but victory is not always the mark of success. We won't all be state champions, we won't all be college wrestlers, and we won't all become CEO's. However, if we attack our goals with confidence, intensity, and honesty then we are certainly champions, and we have certainly achieved success.

As a wrestling coach, I also expect my athletes to be quality people. I expect them to try their very best to be successful in the classroom, on the mat, and leaders in their social settings. I try to help my athletes set their goals at a very high level. I then try to prepare them physically and mentally to attain these goals. I expect my wrestlers to believe and know that because they practice with relentless intensity, they have every right to achieve the highest level that their talent permits. For many this will mean winning state championships, and for others the plateaus will not be quite as high.

Talent is not the barometer of success at Krop. Instead, the level of commitment being displayed is our gauge. If commitment to excellence is developed, strengthened, or mastered in our wrestling room, then our athletes will certainly be better prepared to attack the work force and real world after high school.

GOALS

1.That the wrestling team will become a vehicle and a safe haven for everyone of its members to become a better person, student, teammate, and athlete.

2.That by being a part of the wrestling team, a first class program, each member will feel special, shoot for the stars, and realize that he or she is capable of great things.

3.That each wrestler will learn to work hard, believe in him or herself, and become the best that he or she can be.

4. That each wrestler will set his or her own goals and work hard to achieve them.

5. That each member of the team will learn to respect and love his or her teammates.

6. That the team will make its members, supporters, and community proud.

7. That the team will eventually consist of at least 50 members.

8. That the wrestlers compete with intensity, toughness, and always believe they can win.

9. That the wrestlers win and lose with class.

10.That the members of the team will go on to become successful people after they leave the program.

11.That the members will stay in touch and involved with the program after they graduate.
