DIABETESRecently in chat, I have met some folks newly diagnosed with diabetes. I remember when i was first diagnosed, and I can understand the fear one feels when hearing all the scary things that can go wrong. In most cases, though, as long as you watch your diet and take your medication as prescribed, you really won't notice that much of a change in your life.
I am going to include some links to sites with information about this illness, as well as some recipes and product information for some of my favorite sugar-free treats. In this day and age, with so many diabetics around, many cookie and candy companies have sugar-free versions of their best-selling items that we can still enjoy!
Here are a few of my favorites:
These are soooo good, almost like the turtles we have around here!! I just love caramel and pecans, so I am delighted I don't have to do without it!
One word of warning, though: Just because these items are sugar-free doesn't mean they are calorie free. You will probably be placed on a weight loss program if your weight is an issue, so these treats should be used in moderation--I keep them around for when the sweet tooth is raging and i feel like I must have something sweet or go insane!
Now these are my absolute favorites!! Besides the peanut butter I have pictured here (which taste almost as good as reeses peanut butter cups), they also come in caramel, pecans and caramel, and the truffle varieties. The truffles are awesome--they have a dark rich mocha sort of chocolate creme inside the chocolate shell--they are to die for!!
The peanut butter flavor have about 200 calories for 4 pieces, 13g of fat, 0mg cholesterol, 140mgs of sodium, 17g of carbs, and 5g of protein.
These peppermints are good to keep in your purse if you suffer from dry mouth like I do--they aren't too sweet like some peppermints you find, so I especially like them to suck on when I get the munchies! Several companies make these, so you should't have any trouble finding them. They have, per every 3 pieces, 45 calories, 0g fat, 0mg of sodium, 15 g of carbs, and 0 protein.
I have found these fruit flavored hard candies made my both Crystal Light and Sweet & Lo--they are only 25 calories for 4 pieces, with no fat, cholesterol, or sodium, and only 13g of carbs!!
