Bald Eagle

BALD EAGLE ~ Haliaeetus leucocephalus ~ The Bald Eagle is the only eagle that lives only in North America. Male bald eagles usually weigh about 7-10 pounds and have a wingspan of about 6.5 feet. Females usually weigh about 14 pounds and can have wingspans up to 8 feet. Both genders have large eyes, a yellow beak, and big black talins. The white head and tail feathers that give it it's name do not usually appear until the bird is four or five years old. Bald Eagles live for about 30 years in the wild and longer in captivity. Most Bald Eagles eat fish, but they will also eat almost anything they can catch.

The Bald Eagle lives in the sawgrass habitat.
