There are two brothers whom we know so much about, (both presumed to be sons of John Stepp of Buckinghamshire, England) Abraham Stapp's descendants have more documentation surrounding their activities than Joshua's. Much of Henry Scalf's landmark 1976 Stepp book, "The Stepp/Stapp Families of America," focused on Abraham's decendants. The entries below and the records for Joshua's descendants are nowhere near complete.

"Chronicles" researchers had great difficulty reconciling the fact that this Abraham's wife was a Mary C. Keyser. But marriage documents of the children of this Abraham confirm that she was indeed Mary C. Keyser.
Confusion was caused by the fact that much, much later down the line, a Mary Catherine Keyser married David Martin Stepp, son of Jacob, who was the eldest son of John Stalp/Step, Sr. II. The great separation in time was the only thing that shed light.
The first Mary C. Keyser married Abraham ca 1788. The second Mary C. Keyser married David Martin Stepp in 1862--a 74 year span. "The Chronicles" speculates that the brother of the first Mary C. Keyser was an ancestor of the second Mary C. Keyser.
Researchers have been able to record only three children born to Abraham and the first Mary C. Keyser. We know there were more because of the spread in birthdates involved in the three we know about.

At various times he either owned land or lived on Clear Creek in Southwest North Carolina in the area now occupied by Polk and Henderson Co. At one time he owned an acreage on Dirbin's Creek of the Saluda River in South Carolina.
Red Hill (Stepp) Cemetary is located on Little Hungry Creek in Henderson Co., NC, near the old Adam Hyder house and Adam's Run School.
Reuben lived on the other side of the road about 1/2 mile distant. The cemetary was on a little hill in back of the house. This cemetary is approximately 170-220 years old and is home to 16 to 20 graves. The only marker as of 1976 was for A.T. (Abraham) Stepp, son of John, Reuben's brother.

Census data confirms he returned with her to his adopted state of Illinois.

From Scalf: On the Miller Stepp homestead was a big yellow pine stump several feet in diameter. Miller would point to that stump and say, "That is where we cut the tree for lumber to make the coffins for Lizzie and her father, Robert Jones, who died in 1890."
Her father lived with them before he died. R. Miller Stepp died at the grist mill of a heart attack. He was grinding corn meal for James (Jay) Stepp, son of Miller's brother Jim.
Miller's private cemetary was not started until 1895 when Bannie was buried a year after Lizzie had died.
Addl Notes: From Scalf: John Eli Stepp and Wes King, son of Bob King, when they were both about 16 years old, were going to to Red Hill Cemetary the day after John's grandfather, Reuben, was buried. Wes turned around and said to John, "You know something? The maggots are going to eat your grandfather up in a few days." "Why," John asked. Wes replied, "Because I saw them close a blow fly up in the coffin."
