Activities of the gifted class
The gifted class is currently working on a project for Toshiba Exploravison.
They are working in teams of 3's or 4's and redesigning or improving upon some
technology that exisists and creating a prototype of their new
invention. They are researching their chosen technology to find out who invented
it, when it was invented, how it was invented and why it was invented
They are also creating a storyboard to explain their project.
We can't tell you the ideas yet, so look forward to looking for these
ideas in January when the class presents their project.
In the Computer lab
Things that we do in the classroom
In our classroom, we have 4 computers and a full lab. When using
We occaisonally go to the computer lab, and use the computers in the classroom daily. Some students work on our webpages, While others use the internet-bookmarked places only and the software that we have in the classroom- including amazon trail, eco-adventures, the oceans, the rainforest, rainforest explorer, adam.the animals. the dinosaurs,repitles and whales, space simulator, where in space is carmen sandiego?,grolier's.etc.
AIn the computer lab students are learning hyperstudio-an animated
presentation program, we are also learning how to use the animals, and adam and will be looking forward to using the computer lab this month for other programs.
Extra credit projects include-the BCfair projects and the AIDS poster contest.Coming up will be the week of the oceans projects.
Sept. - Nov. Labs/explore activites
1. The metric system lab- Using a balance, graduated cylinder + ruler 2. Leaf Graphing Lab 3. Leaf Classifation 4. Protist Labs: Blephrisma, Euglena, Paramecium, and Amoeba 5. Micro veiwer labs: Pond life, The Virus, Bacterra-Helpful, Bacterra-Harmful, Protozoans 6. Is yeast a living thing? 7. Using a key 8. Animal I.D. lab 9. How closely related are the animals? 10. What are som diffrences between living things? 11. What are some signs of life? the testbook we preview chapters, construct a kwl, use vocabulary improvement guides, work on concept maps and graphic organizers, complete many labs, watch demonstrations, and have Gardner's intelligence activity projects. We also complete chapter maps. We are currently looking for guest speakers and are planning a field trip.We have participated in many contests and have a first place winner in the International Week of the oceans contest in the middle school art category. We are looking forward to participating in the science fair and week of the oceans competition along with many other competitions.
