clubEQ Quilts made by members
March 1999

Please, be patient!  Over 50 quilts are on this page, so it will take a little time to load.
Go get a 'cuppa' and by the time you get back, the page will be up!

Thank you to the 35 participants who contributed 42 .prj files to the clubEQ March Challenge.

March Challenge --   One Block, Baby!

Choose an interesting block from the EQ3 Block Library or create an original block. Use the Baby Blocks setting to get an effect that will be quite a surprise. Quilts this month will be set only in the Baby Blocks layout. You may use any block you want, though you may find that some will work much better than others. Experiment.

Create a quilt that has a very different overall look because you skewed the square block to a 60 degree diamond in the Baby Blocks layout. ***Please do not submit 3D isometric quilts this time. Save them for another challenge month.***

Your mission this month, should you choose to accept it, is to create a quilt that no one has seen before because no one thought to take your choice for a square block and skew it. Create a quilt with an overall look that is awesome.

The good news is, if you can piece it (and even foundation piece it) as a square, you most certainly can piece it as a 60-degree diamond!
The gooder news is that EQ3 will give you the patterns for your templates already skewed to the diamond.

I love to use the block in an overall quilt. It's really fun when someone asks, "How did you do that?" You don't have to answer them. <VBG>   BarbV

Since these files are over 2 years old, the project files are not available.  Some email addresses may have changed.
All files in this challenge can be opened in Electric Quilt 4 & 5.
All files are EQ4, unless noted as EQ3 file.

Example of a Baby Block setting for a quilt

Bow Tie block

3 Bow Tie blocks set into a Baby Block layout
Note how layout looks like children's blocks

Bow Tie block in each
block of the Baby Block layout
Note the secondary image

In the Baby Block layout --
Bow Tie on top of the Baby Block  is "on-point" and the Bow Ties on the sides of the Baby Block are skewed, at different angles.

The quilts in this clubEQ challenge were made in the Baby Block layout.
In most of the quilts, each block in the quilt is the same block. The challenge was to use only one block in the layout, but some of the EQers got a little creative!  ;-)

Bear's Paw
I discovered this quilt when I was trying to show a potential customer what
she could do to design a quilt that went beyond the traditional expectations.
I could see this as a wonderful winter or Christmas quilt.
I would be tempted to choose colors reminiscent of my favorite
Norwegian ski sweater (black, gold, white, and red).

Little Rock
This block was chosen randomly from the
EQ Block Library (Traditional, Stars).
I had never used this block before, so I set it in the Baby Blocks layout
as a line drawing, not as a colored block.
Then I could look for secondary designs to color.
There are no curved seams in this quilt, though that isn't the way it looks!

Fireworks

This block in EQ has intrigued me since I first saw it.
Am still trying to figure out how to actually sew it together.

Snow on St. Patrick's

The block IS ORIGINAL -- a variation of Aunt Sukey's Choice.
I challenged myself even more by just using green and white in my fabric palette -- in honor of St. Patrick's Day.

An Irish Blessing:
May the road rise to greet you
May you find fabric shops galore
May UPS bring the package with EQ4

Lichen

Used moss green, teal, grey and sand colours to reflect the colours
of lichen, and surrounding rocks/earth using the Crazy Patch II block.

Baby Kaleidoscope

The main block is "Good Luck" and the border is "Buckwheat", both from the EQ3 Block library.
I designed the corner block to coordinate with the Buckwheat block.
