THE AMPLIFIER FOR THE D-104

This diagram needs no instructions and is shown for referance only.

CHANGING THE D-104 TO FIVE WIRE

You will need to change the mic cord to 5 wires.

You will also need to change to a 5 pin Cobra Plug if you are setting the mic up for a Cobra 148 GTL, 2000 or 142, President Washington etc.

When changing a D-104 to a 5 wire setup, you need to run 3 extra wires from the new switch to the mic cord as shown in diagram.

The first thing to do, is to remove the head assembly. You will also have to remove all screws, the one for the socket at the top where the head pluged in, then the three screws at the bottom of neck, two of which hold the switch bar in place.

Then remove the switch assembly which is located in the long neck just below the mic head.

By the way, you can get any and ALL parts for the Astatic D-104 and other Astatic products at: http://www.astatic.com/

SLIDE MOD FOR THE COBRA 148 GTL

# 1 - Cut R-424 located on the function switch board where the CB/PA, NB/ANL SPEAKER switch's are.

# 2 - Find the wire on the "Fine" clarifier control on the opposite side of the brown wire going to R-424 (I believe it's either Red or Orange wire), trace it to where it attaches to the main PCB and cut it loose from that end, then run it to IC-4, Pin 1.

NOTE: just for your information, all slide mods for the Cobra 142, 148 and 2000 and other sister units on the web say to "run the wire from the clairifier to IC-4, pin 3," don't do it! This pin has an electrolytic connected to it that is used for internal regulation inside IC-4, it was never meant to draw current from.

# 3 - Jump R-175 (if needed)
# 4 - Cut R-44
# 5 - Jump R-174
# 6 - and finally, Cut D-52

After doing this you MUST re-tune L-23, L-59 and L-22. See my tune-up section on the Cobra 148

NOTE: In the diagram, you will note the change of D-35 to a ECG or NTE 612, in the Cobra 148 GTL and Cobra 2000 GTL this results in a slide of a "half" channel "UP" and one and a half down. Next, you will be advised that the slid mods on the internet, blindly refer to changing this diode to a "Super Diode" with no information on what a "Super Diode" is, well now you know.
