Today We Send our Sympathies to Judi (Wells) McKnew for the passing of "Tom McKnew" who was so eliquently described in a Letter from Bill Lawson

I am sad to say that our classmate and good friend, Tom McKnew, passed away yesterday, February 16, 2010, at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida. Always of good cheer and a true friend, he will be missed by all of us. As he battled his health problems, he did it with a positive and optimistic attitude - just as he lived his life. He said that he had a happy and fulfilling life, more than he could ever have imagined. His wife, Judi, was a true joy in his life; and their devotion to one another is an inspiration to us all. Being Mayor of Gainesville, FL gave him a unique perspective and was an example of his desire to serve his fellow man. He had a desire to teach government and history, because he wanted to make a difference. Although he never had the opportunity to teach, he made a difference in the lives of those he touched . He was also tagged a fellow iconoclast by our 9th grade algebra teacher, Ed Reagh. This was a title he was quite proud of, and with a twinkle in his eye he could see the levity in situations that would be daunting to many. While Mayor of Gainesville, he led a delegation to their sister city in Russia for an extended period. He carried two suitcases. One held his clothes. He became quite the hero when he revealed that his second suitcase contained nothing but toilet paper. On a recent visit over the Christmas holdiays, Tom treated us to a Native's Tour of Gainesville. When I expressed concern over his running a red light and only giving cursory glances to stop signs, he stated, "That's okay, Bill, I have a Florida Real Estate License. The iconoclast rides again. I heard someone once say, " It is nice to be important, but it is more imprtant to be nice." Tom McKnew embodied that saying. Bill Lawson

Create Your Own

July 1995, Sunday Buffet 25th Get to Gether in Delray Beach ending the wonderful events for that weekend. "Can you see if you're amongst us ?"

The Reunion for October in Atlanta, Georgia was a great get to gether

On Friday Evening, October 15,09 several classmates meet at the DoubleTree Inn, Atlanta, Ga. The people who met for brunch had a wonderful time at Marlo's Rooftop, on the DoubleTree Inn. The weather was grand and cool. The atmosphere was wonderful, and of course we had to be run out of the place, as there isn't enough time to go over events in each one's life from the past. Darlene Walker came the farthest, Houston , Texas with her husand. Dennis Rualerson and his wife came up from Port St. Lucie, Florida, as did Frank Williams and his wife. locals were Laura Rizzo Moore, Mike Woodliff, David Adams,Margot Shaul Swann, Mark and his wife who worked hard to put this event together. Many were unable to attend, due to illness, the floods in Atlanta, and of course the recession we seem to hope will go away.

Saturday Morning, we all met for Breakfast where another 3 hr + discussion went on. The weather turned cool and we all ventured to an indoor affair at the Georgia Acquarium, where Luther Keene and Gloria employer had a hand in constructing. We spent several hours in the Acquarium and then ventured to the "Varsity" famous hot dogs and chili. Un unscheduled tour was had by most of us, as we got lost. Some ending up in Georgia Tech with an ongoing Tailgate party, and the others touring the outskirts. We all meet back up at the DoubleTree Inn.

The Stone Mt. event did not come to fruition due to the lack of response of late. Initially we had over 75 interested Classmates. This is what encouraged us to choose Stone Mountain. Hopefully, many will be able to attend the "50th" in Delray in the Year 2014! See you all then. Keep us posted of your whereabouts and your email changes as we would like to continue to inform classmates. Thanks, Tina Kelley H.

Jim Bast is CLASSMATE of the Month of June 2009

For those who don't remember Jim, he was a dear friend of Marty Auerback, Gail Schamback, Judy Oliver, and others

Fire Rescue Blades, Inc. was started after I came up with the EXTRACTOR, All Purpose Diamond Fire Rescue Blade specifically for my sons fire departments. The rescue saw blade turned out to be so outstanding their chiefs told me I needed to make it available to other fire departments and that was the start of FireRescueBlades. My company is the only one selling the EXTRACTOR which is manufactured by a friend

Site for Fire Rescue Blades

Here a little family history related to my company. My oldest son Jim II, graduated from U of Florida where his mother my first wife graduated, and our second son, Jeff graduated from Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville. Both my sons worked in their related career fields for almost two years and didn't like what they were doing. Thank God, one of my closest friends Scott Johnston whom I was playing church league softball with at the time was the Special Ops Division Chief with Boca Raton Fire Rescue. Scott said he could really relate to their situation so he had a chat with Jim II. The next thing I knew both my sons were back in college to become para-medics; and after that they went onto the fire academy. Now, both are firefighter/para-medics on the job for two years and have never had a day they have not loved their work. God is good!

I when back to college when I was still living in Breckenridge, Colorado. My good old Palm Beach Junior College AA degree credits were transferable to Metropolitan State College of Denver, so enrolled and took a semester of prerequisites to get into the School of Addictive Behaviors in their Human Services department and took their two year program to become an addictions specialist with Colorado certification. I finished with a CAC II certification, and my Bachelor of Science in Human Services.

I often share how being spiritually moved to go back to college at age 46 was a life changing experience, and huge blessing. It opened a whole new world to me at a critical time in my life when a relationship had ended with heartache and I was devastated by the loss. I've come to believe God has always taken me where I needed to be, even though at times it was very painful. It those painful experiences that have made me an excellent counselor and today I'm thankful for them.

Anyway, I did a lot of work with court order clients sent from the Denver judicial system when I worked as a counselor at Dynamic Directions Counseling Center in Littleton, CO. Now, in addition to managing my Fire Rescue Blade company. I still enjoy helping folks with relationship codependency issue. Although my certification is in Colorado I work here as a relationship coach/mentor, and don't need the title counselor. It's great, working for myself I get to pick and choose who I work. So, unless a person really has a burning desire to make changes in their life I don't waste there time or take their money. I simply tell them to come back when their really ready to make a commitment to do the necessary work to accomplish their goal. I think that being honest and fair with them.

I'm blessed to be married to my second wife, Dottie, for six year this past June 7th, she's wonderful! Dot's a Penn State grad, and the program developer and trainer for the human resource department of Delray Beach.

We both volunteer our time on Friday nights to facilitate groups for a program called Celebrate Recovery. "Celebrate Recovery" helps people interested in working on Hurts, Hangups, or Habits, it's definitely not just about Alcohol/Drugs recovery. The program was started at Pastor Rick Warren's (author of The Purpose Driven Life) Saddleback Church in California. It's truly a wonderful program and currently offered worldwide in over 3500 churches. About 80 people attend the program at our church, Soncoast Community Church, in Boca Raton. I'd say about 40% of those attending are working on codependency issue which my wife facilitate groups for, she does a women's group and I men. The others attending are working on remaining free of alcohol/chemical dependency. The program is free, and anyone wanting to work on a hurt, hangup, or habit is welcome on Friday nights. Program start out with a great meal at 6PM.

My life isn't perfect but it's pretty darn great. My family has been very blessed. My sons love and respect their stepmother Dottie. And, my ex-wife and her husband, who my sons love, are all good friends and we get to see each other often socially. God's been really is good to us.

Hopefully, one of these days Dottie and I; and my best buddies Marty Auerback, and Dr. Gail Schamback, and their wives will be able to join you and our other friends at one of the up coming reunions. We'll have to see how things work out. Thanks again for putting www.FireRescueBlades.come on the website. I hope it helps to get the word out about our life saving rescue saw blade "the EXTRACTOR". I can report to you that Fire departments from Pacific coast to Atlantic coast are hearing about it and using it. Even, Homeland Security Customs and Immigration's Caribbean Strike Force Unit in San Juan, PR is using my EXTRACTOR blade, for cutting into ships, boats, shipping container, truck bodies and concrete and steel warehouses. I sell it to fire departments 40% cheaper than any copy-cat rescue blades on the market, which we've out performed in all tests conduct by firefighters. It's a phenomenal saw blade and I really appreciate the opportunity to further spread the word.

    Edna Young

Dear Seacrest Friends, It is with much sadness that I must report the passing of my dearest friend from school, Edna (Eddie) Young Elliott. Edna passed away peacefully on April 23, 2009. She is survived by her sons Christopher Wilson and Justin Elliott. Also her father Ed Young and ex husband, Paul Elliot. I have had to take this much time to want to break the news to you all. I know it will bring sadness to your hearts. I was able to visit Edna and spend some quality time with her. She wanted everyone to know that she cared very much for her classmates and had fond memories of school. She had breast cancer and was treated very well in the care of Hospice in her final weeks. Edna was a very private person and wished for little fanfare from the world. She practiced law in Tampa and did volunteer work for the Mental Health Association. She was well liked and respected in her community. I hope your memories of her are as happy as mine are. Emails can be sent to her family to express your regrets and your anecdotes on Eddie in your life. It is very hard to except that our young friends are leaving us. I pray peace, love , health and happiness for you all....and don't forget to smell the roses. Cary Nation
