Allen Ezail Iverson was born on June 7, 1975 in Hampton, Virginia. His mother was 16 at the time, and his father left both of them soon after his birth. He grew up in a bad state of poverty with his mother struggling to pay water and electric bills. Sports were said to have been a way to escape struggle and frustration for Allen. As a kid he was good at baseball, basketball, and football. Today, he is known for his basketball skill, but he did not enjoy it the most as a kid. A quote made by Allen was : " Football was my first love. (...) Still is. I didn't even want to play basketball at first. I thought it was soft. My mother's the one who made me go to tryout's. I'll thank her forever. I came back and said : 'I like basketball, too'" Allen was a natural born athlete. His first dunk was at age 15. Even before high school, he was known on the playground courts as "bubbachuck" Then in high school he dominated in both sports. With Allen, Bethel High School won a state championship in both sports. He was voted Virginia High School Player of the Year in both sports. As you ahve probably noticed, people choose to judge Allen in the wrong way. They gave him the reputation as a thug ot gangbanger. Such thoughts picked at Allen. "I got rows, but that don't mean I'm no gangbanger. I ain't never been in a gang. Why people wanna judge me like that?" Not that he doesn't know bangers and thugs. He spent most of his life trying to survive by them. One summer in Hampton, Virginia, where he grew up, 8 of his friends were killed. One of them being his bestfriend, Tony Clark, who always stoof up for Allen. If Clark had lived he may have saved him from the wort night of his life, the one that almost ruined him, and put him in jail for most of his life.
