Welcome to the Home page for GrassRoot Troop Support. This
organization was formed as a means for the general public to show real and
meaningful support for our troops overseas. While car decals make us
feel good, they do little to help the men and women of our armed
forces who are in harms way. Donations to this organization will have a
positive and DIRECT impact on our soldiers.
Our current mission is to provide our ground troops with safety glasses. We
learned recently, that for many of our soldiers these are not standard issue.
we are asking for contributions that will be used to purchase glasses and have
them shipped directly to the troops in the field.

shipping
Why? - A Mom's letter
Because – a yellow ribbon
stating “We Support our Troops” is not enough.
As a mother of a young
soldier who is in Iraq – I am praying he comes home in one piece.
Regardless of my feelings toward the war –love for my son and his soldier
compatriots is driving my campaign.
I am raising enough money to
send EVERY soldier in the ( ) battalion – PROTECTIVE EYE ARMOR According
to doctors and ophthalmologist serving in Combat Support Hospitals in Iraq,
approximately 10% of all American troops they treat for battle-related
wounds have some form of eye damage, almost always associated with other
blast injuries. A senior military ophthalmologist says U.S. troops
sustaining combat-related eye damage in Iraq may be higher than in any other
previous conflict.
According to a recent report
in the New England Journal of Medicine on battlefield wounds in Iraq and
Afghanistan, surgeons looking into “a dismayingly high incidence of blinding
injuries” found that many soldiers weren’t wearing eye protection that had
been given to them. The reason: The goggles were just too ugly.
I am seeking to purchase 2,000 pairs of protective ‘cool-looking
glasses’ which has already gained acceptance by some military groups.
The eye armor I am
seeking your help to purchase, is currently issued to U.S. Special Forces,
such as the Army Rangers, Navy SEALS, and other ELITE military units.
My goal is one Army battalion
– but hopefully, my initiative will encourage Moms to join this crusade and
help equip their son/daughter’s fighting unit with eye armor. With your
help – we can make a difference.
