Not so long ago, in a hospital far

away, was an 18 month old child who had

been there since birth. He had a lot of

medical problems and there was not a foster

parent in the land who felt equipped to meet his

needs, so the hospital became home. Then the

great Force of Medicaid entered and said, "Hey,

this is expensive. What can we do?"

And, years later . . . .

The Medical Parenting Program

aka Medical Foster Care
We are:

a medical overlay program for licensed foster homes.

part of Children's Medical Services (CMS).

We work with:

the Department of Children and Families (C&F) and Medicaid.

medically fragile children who are entering the substitute care system and their families.

medical foster parents and potential medical foster parents.

We serve:

Leon, Wakulla, Gadsden, Franklin, Liberty, Madison, Jefferson and Taylor Counties.

We provide:

medical service coordination, training and support.

Medicaid provides:

funding for the child's treatments and the medical parents' services.

C&F provides:

the children, coordination and oversight of social services and the administration of foster home licenses.

We are looking for:

existing and potential foster parents who have a desire to provide care for these children and help teach their parents that care when appropriate.
