Previous Composers' Tips of the Day

#1: Want to add some intestinal fortitude to your bass tracks? Try this trick to beef up your wimpy bass tones: Make a copy of the bass track and transpose it down an octave and then scale the velocity of all the notes down by about 50%. If you have an open midi channel, you might want to also try doubling the bass track with a distorted guitar sound, acoustic piano, or a string sound. Since you're using a separate channel, you can reduce the volume instead of the velocity: As with most effects, you don't want them to be loud enough to be noticeable--just loud enough that you notice when they're missing. Of course you should experiment with other "doubles" as well..if you find one you like, I'd like to hear about it!
