New York

Northern, Route 28. Both scenic and twisty. Low traffic density, good road quality. This road extends from the southern tip of the Adirondack Park to just a few miles shy of Lake Placid. Its twisting turns and continuously climbing elevation makes this one of my favorite roads to ride on when I'm in upstate New York. Rt. 28 originates from Rt. 12 in the small town of Alder Creek, NY. It winds through towns named Forestport, Thendara, Old Forge, Inlet, Long Lake, and many many others. It parallels the Fulton Chain of Lakes, a sequence of beautiful blue-watered bodies that offer great motels as well as quaint pubs and restaurants. For anyone coming even remotely close to this region while enroute to Americade, or if you're just plain looking for a great route with mountains, lakes, and occasionally a black bear (I'm not joking!), this is a good road to test out.
