Point of No Return

She continued to lead her double life serving as a mole within her unit, delaying planned attacks against Rebel ground installation and space forces on the pretense of collecting more intelligence. Although most of her former allies were unaware of her tactics, the grandson of her commander, Osketo Iteiasle became suspicious. It was not long before he managed to follow her to a meeting with known Rebel operatives and discovered the truth.

Perhaps foolishly he decided to confront Zarith back in Thermopoli regarding what he had seen and they began to exchange heated words. He then drew his blaster and attempted to place her under arrest. Nothing she could say would dissuade him from his course of action.

Never had Zarith drawn a pistol as fast as when she attacked Osketo. Her attack left him severely wounded and as she approached him she knew she should finish him to avoid him telling her secret. She hesitated as he had been a favorite pupil of hers in the art of the pistol and had begun to train him as a pilot. It is difficult to say what she might have done because as she stood over his bleeding and unconscious body she heard voices approaching.

Quickly leaving the building she ran for the shuttle, knowing that she had taken an action that had severed all ties to her old unit. It was at that time she felt a wave of dark anger flowing towards her that hit her as hard as a physical attack. Turning back towards the building she had left Osketo she saw her commander, Owosci Iteiasle racing towards her with murder in his eyes.

Words were useless as he had learned that she was responsible for the attack and he drew his lightsaber as he advanced towards her. Each one had a great deal of respect for the other, but the line had been drawn. Owosci, the one who brought her into the Empire and helped her rise so far was now her mortal enemy.

Each one fought with single minded purpose, showing no hesitation. Each strike and shot was a statement of rage and frustration at the unexpected nature of this betrayal. It quickly became apparent that since her training in the force arts was incomplete she was overmatched and this battle would not end until someone was dead.

Using her knowledge of medical techniques she paralyzed him with an injection slipped though his defenses and decided to commandeer the shuttle since she knew it would be nearly impossible to defeat him at this time. Hatred seethed in his eyes as he watched her launch into the air and it was clear he would not rest until she was dead.

Her mind numb, she did not even question when she was ordered by Talon Karrde to report to Admiral Wilhelm Burke of the Rebel Alliance on a special mission. She was almost relieved when he ordered her into action into the hotly contested Kessel system to provide fighter support to the task force stationed there. The solitude of the cockpit and the cold indifference of space was exactly what she required.

Her skills were no less deadly as a member of the Alliance as when she had been a loyal Imperial pilot. She quickly swept the sector of all support craft and engaged the Imperial corvette lead task force, destroying them utterly. The hesitation was gone and each fell quickly and effectively to her weapons.

Reporting her success to the Admiral, she was informed that there were several Alliance squadrons requesting her but he wanted her to perform one additional task before granting her permission to join. Bolstered by their success in the Kessel system, an Alliance task force was going to engage a Star Destroyer on patrol in the Outer Rim. His instructions were for her to join that task force and provide cover for the attacking units.

As the battle progressed it seemed that the Alliance was going to be unsuccessful as the Imperial resistance was heavier than expected. With the main attack wing heavily engaged the superior firepower of the ISD was forcing the Alliance flagship to begin a retreat action. Destroying the last fighter in her zone, Zarith accelerated towards the ISD to help her beleaguered allies.

A grim angel of death, she tore through the Imperial fighter cover using her knowledge of Imperial weaknesses to great effect. As the tide of battle turned she began her attack run on the ISD, using precision strikes to disable key systems. With the final shots tearing though the bridge of the once mighty warship and the cheers of the Alliance pilots ringing in her ears, her conversion to the Alliance was now complete.

Upon landing, she received orders to report to Captain Kreezo in Tyrena, Corellia to begin her service as a member of Arkon's Havoc Squadron. She had successfully completed her task to infiltrate the Alliance but wondered if she would ever regain what she had lost…
