City of Macclenny - Department of Public Safety

Personel for STATION 1

From the Director/Chief

  • In 1936 the City of Macclenny formally established by city ordinance the Macclenny Fire Department, until the late 70's it was the only fire department within Baker County. 1985 the county established the Baker County Volunteer Fire Department. Today as with the past the City of Macclenny places a very high level of concern on public safety, providing through the Office of the Director/Chief, full municipal fire protection, animal control, mosquito control, contracted law enforcement and dispatch, ordinance enforcement, emergency management, city inventory control, employee safety, accident investigation, and street signs. In 1992 the city by ordinance passed the emergency management ordinance within the city which made the Fire Chief the Director of Public Safety and the head of emergency management within the city with full authority to act.

  • The fire department operates out of one main station, with staff vehicles, engine companies, one ladder company and an air and light unit. All emergencies within the city are handled by the city. Average response to emergency calls per year are 600 with an additional 150 public service responses. Mutual Aid is provided by the department to any agency requesting and at any location needed.

  • Each year on the first Saturday in December, the fire department promotes the City of Macclenny's Lighted Christmas Parade , Which brings more than 10,000 people into the city for this event. The department also handles assignments from installing Christmas Lights, Changing traffic lights and installing United States Flags along our roadways for the 4th of July.

  • The department operates under the goal"Ask we will Help"and the MOTTO "Servicing and Protecting YOUR TOMORROW".It is the beleif of the department while people are great-full you extrcated them out of a car or saved their home, this is still negative contact(it's our job),but going that last mile to help while not in an emergency is a positive contact(something you did noit have to do).It is these positive contacts which allows the citizens to have contact with the department and shows "You Care".The citizens of the city are who we work for and have the right not only the very best emergency service , but non-emergency assitance when they request it.
