MARBLE

aka Marb, Lucky Bird, Marble-Arble and Sweet Tweet

March 16, 2004 at 6:15pm EST

Sadly, Marble passed away this evening. She looked a little subdued when I came home from work and as I took her out of her cage, she was having difficulty stepping up, I watched her quickly going downhill. I called her Dr. and we headed right over. It is a 30 minute drive in good traffic which we had. Unfortunately, she died just before we got to the Dr.'s. I had been checking on her during the ride.

Interestingly enough, on the way to the Dr. I noticed a small part of a rainbow in the sky and the closer we got to the Dr.'s office the more of this rainbow I could see. I knew why that rainbow was there....

MARBLE'S STORY

Marble became a member of our family in August 1996 when she was 16 weeks old. She is our first bird and was hand fed. She is a Pearl Cockatiel. We believed her to be a male for a year until...yep! She laid 5 eggs!

Marb spends a lot of time with her Mom and is very attached to her. Marble doesn't talk (but we keep hoping and repeating ourselves). When the garage door opens she will let everyone know that mom has arrived home. She is VERY vocal about that until mom walks in the door. She also enjoys her play gym and playing with legos. Stuffed animals are not her favorite toys and she will let them know she doesn't want to play by spitting at them!

She drinks running water out of the kitchen faucet but isn't allowed in the kitchen when someone is cooking. Bathing takes place in the bathroom sink and she thoroughly enjoys her bath.

The best way to get Marb's attention is with food. She stays with Mom until someone enters the room with food. Then you become her instant friend. Her favorite? It's popcorn! She also likes spaghetti, shrimp, potatoes, beans and peas, broccoli, cauliflower, pasta, rice, scrambled eggs and bread. She doesn't care for fruits much but will sometimes eat cantaloupe and apples. Of course, she has a cocktiel seed mix and millet sprays in her diet.

Marble has a new sibling. We adopted a Sun Conure in February of 2002. We don't know if it's a boy or girl but we call it a him for now. His name is Skittles. Marble isn't too thrilled about the new addition but is getting a little better.

Marble and Skittles

Skittles has been tested and he is a "he". Marble still does not want to be friends with him. She will tolerate being on the playgym with him but only as long as he stays on his side. At least they don't attack each other.

Here's Marble and Mom. Skittles is hiding on the back of Mom's neck. He's the one that gave her "Bird Hair".

Marble with Mom

Marble had a wonderful Christmas 2002. Here she is with her cage top playgym Mom gave her.

Marble is getting a new brother in early to mid-February 2003. His name is JB and he is a Congo African Grey. You can view his pics to watch him grow by visiting his online nest. Just click on the bird nest.
