The annual Sunshine Games were held this year at Classic Mile in Ocala. Huge Live Oaks on this lovely country estate and Thoroughbred training center created cool, shady viewing areas for spectators as well ad competitiors. Susan and Joe Gilliland organized the event sponsored by the Madon County Chamber of Commerce.
As usual, members of the Florida Morgan Horse Association volunteered to help. Ed Rowell managed the administrative duties; Claudia Parkhurst, scribed for the dressage judge; Gary Combee set the cones course; Becky Faircloth was the gate keeper. The day was picture perfect to watch 11 Morgans compete in driven dressage and a cones course. Familiar faces from the Morgans family were in the crowd cheering for the Morgan competitors: Bob Tolmach, Bill Parkhurst, Pegy Klimm, Jerry Hagaman, Byron Brazil, Ann Durlak, Norma Fleming, Holly Combee, Peter Egyed, and Cole Barnett.
At the end of the day, Ann Durlak and RM Excalibur drove away with the Preliminary, Single Horse 1st place honors as well as 3rd place Advanced Single Horse. Norma Flemming and MM Hasty Hart placed 3rd, Bill Parkhurst and 4 C Duchess 3rd, and Holly Combee and King's April Frolic 5th in Preliminary Single Horse.
Peggy Klim and MM Midnight Blue earned 3rd place in Training Single Horse.
In the Training Single Pony, Jerry Hagaman and Top Brass Wind Chime came in 2nd, Byron Brazil and MM Cordon Bleu 3rd, and Bob Tolmach 4th.

Thanks to the volunteers, the organizers, the spectators and competitors, oue talented Morgans had a place in the sun at the 1998 Sunshine Games.
