Silage Making

Silage is the product of wilted grass which is then collected up and baled or ensiled in a pit.

Cutting grass

Here the grass is being cut with a conditioner mower. It bruises the grass as it cuts it. The grass is then left to wilt for between 12 - 24 hours.

Storing the grass

Here the grass is harvested into trailers where it is then taken to the farm and stored in a bunker and then covered with plastic sheets and tyres put on top to limit the amount of air that gets in to stop it going mouldy.

Here the grass is baled by a round baler then wrapped like cling film to keep in all the goodness and keep out the air which makes it go mouldy.
