Prayers for strength to anyone experiencing
health problems post hysterectomy!

Sincere Thanks for sharing your experiences
so that others may know they are not alone.

Jeannah

1.)What was the reason for your hysterectomy?
(endo,fibroids,etc.)
*dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia, known pelvic endometriosis
stage 1 very extensive, also had numerous cysts
very messed up on the inside.

2.)Do you feel like you were informed about what to
expect after surgery and what the long term effects
might be on your health by your doctor?
*NO!!!! the only thing i was told was that I
needed to have the surgery, if not then probably
a yr or 2 down the road, but it definitely had to
be done. and was also told that I would have to be
on hormone replacements

3.)If not your doctor, where did you get your
information on hysterectomy?
*I'm just now learning about it. A little to
late, huh?

4.)Did you use birth control pills in your lifetime?
If yes for how long total? At what age did you
start using them?
*yes for about 5 or 6 yrs. on and off

5.)Did you use tampons or pads during menstruation?
*yes

6.)Do you have female blood relatives with
reproductive diseases? If so, what ones and
which relatives?
*All of my sisters have had a partial
hysterectomy, 3.

7.)How long has it been since your surgery?
*Since march of 97

8.)Did you have uterus, and both ovaries removed?
*Yes

9.)What problems, if any, are you experiencing?
*You name it I'm experiencing them. About a month
after the surgery I went into surgical menopause.
I really didn't know what was going on with my
body. I felt alone, angry (for no reason) loss of
sex drive, fatigued, not sleeping, felt like I
wasn't the same person anymore, I have a hard time
reaching orgasms if at all, I feel like I have no
emotions inside me, and over the yrs it has
gotten worse.

10.)What if anything has made them better?
*I am just now waking up and realizing that I need
to do something about this. So I will keep you
informed when I know what is going on.

11.)Have you ever encountered a doctor or nurse
that did not treat you with respect in regard to
your difficulties? If yes, would you like to
share the experience?
*Yes. My spouse is in the military and they
basically tell you your not feeling what you are
and send you home with a bottle of motrin
(the cure all)

12.)Are you currently using any form of hormone
replacement therapy? If so what?
*Right now, just estrogen shots

13.)How are you feeling currently?
*I feel ashamed that I feel the way I feel. When I
started getting depressed (I guess you could say)
I thought there was something wrong with me and I
couldn't even tell anyone about what was going on
in my head. I thought that I was going crazy, that
I was not a women anymore because I couldn't even
please my husband anymore, and I couldn't even
tell the man that I love with all my heart what
was going on. And just a few wks ago he said that
things had changed that he still loved me, but he
didn't know if he could stay and work things out.
So I finally came clean and told him how I had
changed and why I thought I changed. But it is so
hard for a man to know what you are talking about.
But like I said I am getting help now, so we'll
see how things go from there.?

14.)Anything else you need or want to share??
*Just please ladies, make sure this is what you
need if it takes getting a second and third opion,
do so, and always, always tell your spouse what is
going on in your head, don't let something like
this tear you apart (like it may have us). Thank
you for listening. I wish I would have known
all that I know now about the effects so I could
have at least known what would go on, mentally
and physically.

1.)What was the reason for your hysterectomy?
(endo,fibroids,etc.)
**Endometriosis

2.)Do you feel like you were informed about what
to expect after surgery and what the long term
effects might be on your health by your doctor?
**I was totally uninformed by my doctor. She hates
to answer questions. I still haven't been told
what she found when she did my surgery.

3.)If not your doctor, where did you get your
information on hysterectomy?
**Mostly form the internet and my Mom

4.)Did you use birth control pills in your
lifetime? If yes for how long total? At what age
did you start using them?
**I used the pill from the time I was 15 to the
time I was 20, one month before conception of my
first child.

5.)Did you use tampons or pads during menstruation?
**tampons

6.)Do you have female blood relatives with
reproductive diseases? If so, what ones and
which relatives?

Great Great-Grandmother all had Endo.

7.)How long has it been since your surgery?
**3 weeks

8.)Did you have uterus, and both ovaries removed?
**yes

9.)What problems, if any, are you experiencing?
**It hurts to urinate really bad, they have found
no infection and put me on a 4 day cycle of
something that made my pee orange but it didn't
help. I also still have cramps.

10.)What if anything has made them better?
**Vicodin helped but they said that they don't want
me to be an addict so they said I have to take
motrin or tylenol.

11.)Have you ever encountered a doctor or nurse
that did not treat you with respect in regard to
your difficulties? If yes, would you like to
share the experience?
**Almost all of them have treated me badly it took
them a year to diagnose my and it was only because
I suggested it might be Endo. They treat me like
there is nothing wrong and I am just whining so
that they will give me pain meds.

12.)Are you currently using any form of hormone
replacement therapy? If so what?
**I take .625 mg of premarin

13.)How are you feeling currently?

**I would be willing to give my whole story if you

My name is Jennifer Huddleston and my E-mail
address is:

Marcsbutrflygirl@aol.com

1.)What was the reason for your hysterectomy?
(endo,fibroids,etc.)
**Endometriosis..

2.)Do you feel like you were informed about
what to expect after surgery and what the long
term effects might be on your health by your doctor?
**No not as of yet. Will be doing all that stuff
on Aug 14th when I go in for my pre op stuff.

3.)If not your doctor, where did you get your
information on hysterectomy?
**My doctor, and from others on an endo forum,
other than from the endo assoc.

4.)Did you use birth control pills in your
lifetime? If yes for how long total? At what age
did you start using them?
**Yes, I used continual BCP's for a year,then six
months of Lupron shots. I am currently 39. At the
age of 32 I was told I was in the beginning of menopause.

5.)Did you use tampons or pads during menstruation?
**I used pads, as my periods only lasted a day at
the most. I hurt terribly when I had my periods, so
in a way, glad the BCP's and the Lupron kept them
away. LOL

6.)Do you have female blood relatives with
reproductive diseases? If so, what ones and
which relatives?
**No..

7.)How long has it been since your surgery?
**Will be having it on August 22.

8.)Did you have uterus, and both ovaries removed?
**Yes will be having it all removed.

9.)What problems, if any, are you experiencing?
**N/A Will tell you after surgery.

10.)What if anything has made them better?
**N/A Same as above.

11.)Have you ever encountered a doctor or nurse
that did not treat you with respect in regard
to your difficulties? If yes, would you like to
share the experience?

**Oh yes. I had one doctor that was in it for the
money only, not my health. He decided to run a
year and a half of tests on me, only to tell me
nothing was wrong still, and to redo ALL the
tests. I left and went to a different doctor, who
did a lap and found out I had endo. I went to a
surgeon, who did tests, and found nothing wrong,
and told me the pain was from me not washing my
hands properly. I wished I had that on tape
because the surgeon would not be practicing today.
Every time I see him, he says hi to me, and I make
a dirty face at him and turn my head. I hate him.
I normally don't act as such, but he really pi**ed
me off. He had me in tears the whole time I was in
his office.

12.)Are you currently using any form of hormone
replacement therapy? If so what?
**Not at this time, but will be after surgery.

13.)How are you feeling currently?
**I hurt like you know what. I am nervous, scared,
and depressed. I know this has to be done, but am
afraid of the after effects if any. Also afraid
because I know my kids won't help me after. They
fight constantly. :o( I feel alone right now, as
I have no female I can talk to or ask questions to
about this and what to expect except for my doctor,
whom I will see on Aug. 14th for preop.

14.)Anything else you need or want to share??
**At this time I would love to share my prayers
with all of you here. I know that God has a reason
for the things going on with me in my life right
now. Sometimes I know why, and sometimes I don't.
Those are the times I am scared. So I have to give
it to Him to handle for me. I know I can't do it
alone. Right now, I just feel so empty and all
alone though. It's hard, and I know the day before
the surgery I am going to be nuts. Currently,
hubby is more worried for me about the surgery
than I am. So not sure here. I just know it is
going to be done though.

15.)Do you have a Web Site/Home Page? If so,leave
me the url I'd love to visit !

**Yes, I have done it, but it's a friend of mine in Ohio and mine place. The URL to it is:

Visit Their Beautiful Page :o)

1.)What was the reason for your hysterectomy?
(endo,fibroids,etc.)
**At the age of 29, I stopped having periods.
Many months and doctors later it was determined
that I probably had endo, laser surgery performed,
biopsy done and two weeks later(just after turning
30) I was having hysterectomy. Biopsy confirmed
cervical cancer that had spread into the uterus
(this on top of having endo)

2.)Do you feel like you were informed about what
to expect after surgery and what the long term
effects might be on your health by your doctor?
**No way! but all cancer gone and no follow up
chemo required(my ovaries were left because "I
was so young"

3.)If not your doctor, where did you get your
information on hysterectomy?
**All research I could get my hands on, speaking
to other women who had been there

4.)Did you use birth control pills in your lifetime?
If yes for how long total? At what age did you
start using them?
**Yes, the pill at age 20 until age 30

5.)Did you use tampons or pads during menstruation?
**Both

6.)Do you have female blood relatives with
reproductive diseases? If so, what ones and
which relatives?
**Mother had fibroid tumors on ovaries

7.)How long has it been since your surgery?
**9 years since hysterectomy, however since then
have had surgery for scar tissue removal and had
right ovary removed

8.)Did you have uterus, and both ovaries removed?
**Uterus, cervix, tubes at first later right ovary

9.)What problems, if any, are you experiencing?
**Endo appears to be back, had small cyst show up
on remaining ovary last month. Severe pain now,
in past severe depression plus I also have
Fibromyalgia

10.)What if anything has made them better?
**Not much of anything.

11.)Have you ever encountered a doctor or nurse
that did not treat you with respect in regard to
your difficulties? If yes, would you like to
share the experience?
**Yes!! when problems first started had a doc
tell me women were supposed to hurt! a couple of
months after right ovary was removed, I was
depressed, ob/gyn informed me he didn't deal with
clinical depression, to see a shrink. Now total
distrust of doctors, am facing dilema of what's
going on now

12.)Are you currently using any form of hormone
replacement therapy? If so what?
**No

13.)How are you feeling currently?
**Terrible. Am in a great deal of pain. This is
scary because I have a pretty high threshold for
pain especially having the fibromyalgia but this
is intense pelvic pain

14.)Anything else you need or want to share??
**Am scared and feel all alone, I try not to
complain though I have a very caring husband and
girlfriend, now that I am at my wits end I have
gone to the doc, she says endo probably back,
should try lupron or look in there to see what's
going on? with past cancer history I'm almost
scared to try drug without knowing. Especially
since all previous surgeries the docs were
surprised because condition was always worse that
tests indicated.

15.)Do you have a Web Site/Home Page? If so, leave
me the url I'd love to visit !
**Not yet P.S. I hope this isn't too long or
rambling but it's really only a brief overview. I
guess the whole pic has to be looked at. Actually
the hysterectomy made me feel 200% better
notwithstanding all other problems.Thanks for
listening!!!!

1)Reason for Hysterectomy?
**Prolonged bleeding, fibroids **No there wasn't any time to be fully informed.
If I had been, I may not have opted for the surgery.

3)Where did you learn about Hysterectomy?
**When I preregistered at the hospital, they gave
me some pamphlets about what to expect. It was
glossed over though.

4)Birth Control Pill usage?
**I took birth control pills for only about 2
years. I was 26.

5)Tampons or Pads?
**Used tampons.

6)Blood relatives with reproductive disease?
**No blood relatives with reproductive diseases.I
really think the fibroids were caused by HRT that
I was on for about 4 years prior to my weaning myself
off of them. I did ok for about 8 months and then
started having problems.

7)Date of surgery?
**7/24/00

8)Uterus & both ovaries removed?
**Yes, was told anyone over 50 that it's automatic.

9)Problems experiencing?
**Night sweats, lots of gas which dr. said is
unrelated to the surgery now. I didn't have the
problem before surgery!

10)What has made problems better?
**Calling today re: night sweats. Walking and Mylanta
has helped the gas. Dr. prescribed Tagament which
did nothing!!!

11)Encountered disrespect from doctors or nurses?
**Haven't had any time for disrespect on the
matter. Have encountered disrespect from doctors
on symptoms of unrelated things. I really don't
care for doctors at all!

12)Hormone Replacement? **Yes, .9 mg. premarin

13)How are you doing? **Except for the night sweats, I feel pretty good.
Trying to do things to clear my mind. Anxious to
get back to my regular routine. I usually work
45-50 hrs. a week in the office at a printing firm.
To go to doing next to nothing is really hard!

14)Anything else to share?
**I think I've said a lot. I'd appreciate your
input. I'm sure you get alot of response. I'm glad
I found you even though it may be a bit too late!
Thank you for your very informative web page.
Cheryl Yaroch

1.)What was the reason for your hysterectomy?
**Severe pain and bleeding during my period

2.) do you feel like you were informed about what
to expect after surgery and what the long term
effects might be on your health by your doctor?
**Yes, I was, I had a doctor who tried to give me
info on every possibility going including death on
the operating table.

3.)If not your doctor, where did you get your
information on hysterectomy?
**I got all my info from my doctors

4.)Did you use birth control in your lifetime?
**Yes I used the pill for 5 years before my first
child was conceived then I went back on them for
1 month after had some severe side affects and
decided to go another route then again after my
second was born I tried them again because I had
developed an allergy to latex and my doctor advised
against the other forms out I stopped two months
later because I was pregnant again I started
taking them at sixteen because they helped
regulate my bleeding

5.) did you use tampons or pads?
**Both

6.)Do you have blood relations with reproductive
diseases? If so , what ones and which relatives?
**Yes, My aunt on my mothers side had cysts on her
ovaries and a hysterectomy was done on her when
she was 19 and she just had breast cancer 4 years
ago. My grandma on my mothers side also had a
hysterectomy to prevent cervical cancer which was
becoming present. And my great grandmother on my
mothers side again died of breast cancer.

7.) How long has it been since your surgery?
**5 weeks

8.)Did you have the uterus, and both ovaries removed?
**No just the uterus and cervix

9.) What problems if any are you experiencing?
**I had a post op infection that I took care of
right away and unlike so many people who's
questionnaire's I read, I have a loss of appetite
which is resulting in weight loss.

10.)What if anything has made them better?
**Nothing for the weight loss as I was overweight
and still am overweight I see no problem with it
and the infection I was on 2 drugs for

11.)Have you ever encountered a doctor or nurse
who didn't treat you with respect in regard to
your difficulties?
**Yes the first doctor I went to with this
problem told me it was all in my head which I
knew wasn't true because the pain started the day
I got my first period I didn't think that periods
would hurt my mom had no pain!!

12.)Are you currently using any form of hormone
replacement therapy?
**No I still have my ovaries

13.)How are you feeling currently?
**I feel 100 times better than I did before
the surgery

14.)Any thing else you need or want to share?
Yes there is , you see I wouldn't have wrote to
you if I had seen my problem in your site. I didn't
have endo or fibroids etc.... they could find no
medical reason this was my last resort to solve the
mystery and since I haven't had any pain since we
are all assuming the problem is solved. I would go
through the pain of surgery again as I don't think
anything is worse then what I went through since
I was sixteen ( I'm 28 now). What I went through
felt like being in hard labor for 7 days a month
and after my third child it increased to 3 weeks
with a week and a half having heavy bleeding . I
thought my case was uncommon but I have two
friends with the same problem 1 has had a
hysterectomy the other will have hers soon.
Please post this so other women know that there
is something else it could be and it can't be
diagnosed without a hysterectomy and that is a
disease similar to endo but it is in the muscle
tissue of the uterus and doesn't show up during a
lap. This is what I had and they couldn't have
fixed it I have three kids and I feel truly blessed
by them my heart goes out to those who don't but
I'm happy I went through with the surgery.
Thank you and God Bless.

its a hard thing to go through and I am trying
very hard to deal with all the side affects of
going through this at my age. All I can say is
find the right Dr and you will do fine. Between
my Dr and my husband I made it through with flying
colors. I had a complete hysterectomy and was in
the hospital for three days, the day I left I got
in our car and I went on vacation to the beach
with my husband and my two kids, that's how I
recovered. I am scared to death of having sex
again, I have this deep hidden fear it is going to
hurt very bad and I will never want to have sex
again so if any one out there can give me advice
on that I am open to it all.

informed about the hormone replacement therapy.

3.)If not your doctor, where did you get your
information on hysterectomy?
**I received a lot of information off of the

11.)Have you ever encountered a doctor or nurse

**Yes, I had 2 surgeries before I changed doctors
and did not find out until I changed doctors that
my previous doctor had operated on the wrong side.
I always complained of pelvic pain in my left side
and when I got my medical records his concentration
was on the right side and he cut my intestine. This
doctor also told me nothing was wrong with my
left ovary, in which, the ultrasounds always
showed a cyst on my left ovary. He told me it
was in my head. I quit going to the doctor because
of him. Finally, I could not stand it anymore and
went, My new doctor scheduled to remove my left
ovary and he found chronic endometriosis and an
endometrinoma. He burnt the endometriosis off and
removed my ovary and started me on Lupron which I
did not respond to and 6 months later had to have
a hysterectomy at age 24 with no children. I just
summarized this very long horror story!
