There is no better teacher than ~Experience~

1.)What was the reason for your hysterectomy?

**Endo, diagnosed only once they got inside. The
original surgery was a laparoscopy to remove ovary w/
tumor, and polyp from uterus. They were going to a
frozen section, which is to have the ovary and polyp
sent to pathology to check for malignancy. If they
were cancerous, then all the female organs
affected were to be removed.

2.)Do you feel like you were informed about what to
expect after surgery and what the long term effects
might be on your health by your doctor?

**No. I had migraines for two weeks, and nausea and
dizziness for about a week that I was not prepared
for. I have also found online that a woman's chances
for vaginal cancer increase when both ovaries are
removed. No one told me this.

3.)If not your doctor, where did you get your
information on hysterectomy?

**Online.

4.)Did you use birth control pills in your lifetime?

**Yes. I started using them when I was 16 or 17,
for two years or so.

5.)Did you use tampons or pads during menstruation?

**Tampons, always. For 23 years.

6.)Do you have female blood relatives with reproductive diseases?

**Not that I'm aware.

7.) Are you a DES daughter?

**Unknown

8.)How long has it been since your surgery?

**Almost three weeks

9.)Did you have uterus, and both ovaries removed?

**Yes

10.)What problems, if any, are you experiencing?

**I'm worried about not having flow of estrogen over
the next six months. I've heard stories of facial
hair and weight gain.

11.)What if anything has made them better?

**Nothing at all helped the headaches. I tried everything
OTC. They just went away on their own. The hot flash
have abated too. I had them recurring over the last
year or so, I thought I was heading into menopause
(I'm only 36, but I knew it could happen). After
the surgery, they jumped to over 30 a day! I was exhausted!

12.)Have you ever encountered a doctor or nurse that
did not treat you with respect in regard to your difficulties?

**Yes, quite a few. Let's suffice it to say, that it
indeed took over nine years to be diagnosed with
Endo, only then to have it be so far gone (stage 4 w/
adhesions to other organs) that it led to complete
hysterectomy. I was totally unaware of it till I
woke up after surgery.

13.)Are you currently using any form of hormone replacement therapy?

**Nothing yet, Dr. adv wait six or seven months
to make sure Endo dies completely.

14.)How are you feeling currently?

**Feeling good for last two days. Sleeping a bit
better. That was a problem too for awhile, nothing
OTC helped that either.

15.)Anything else you need or want to share?

**My feelings are this, it seems to me that you
can't swing a dead cat w/o hitting someone who has
severe problems w/ their bodies and cycles, who also
have no idea what is wrong or how to get help. I had
no idea the problems were so prevalent. These are
issues that are facing half the population of the
entire world! And I really believe not only are women
not being taken seriously, the medical community has
fallen short in just yanking out organs without
properly advising the patients. (As stated, I went
in for the removal of one ovary due to tumor, and
to have a polyp on uterus biopsied. There was a slim
chance they were malignant, and I felt pretty good
with the odds; only to wake up, never to have
children again due to something I spent years and
years seeing doctors about, that no one could give
name to or misdiagnosed altogether..ie; PID & Chrones
to name a couple. No one ever, not once in all those
years even HINTED I might have Endo. )

**Support groups that are truly helpful, and not just the

for endometriosis can cause any remaining endo growths to continue
to bleed and cause pain, inflammation and scarring?

**well i don't have to worry about that right
now because i didn't get a hysterectomy

11.) Do you have any advice or anything you'd like
to share with other women who have endo?

**As I am going though this right now getting a diagnosis ...
it is painful and it is depressing. Sometimes I feel like I don't want to get
out of bed. other times because of the information I read about endometriosis
makes me feel like a failure as a woman because I feel
I will never enjoy the fruit of being a woman again.

12.)Any information I can help you with?

**How do I tell my DR that this is what I have without being confusing?

1. I had a lot of problems obtaining a diagnosis of Endometriosis. I started
going to the doctor a long time ago for painful periods, since I started
having them, they were always painful, I couldn't even move. I am in the
military and the doctors aren't the brightest here, and
it took them 2 years to even mention the word Endometriosis.

2. There is no one in my family with endometriosis, even
though the doctors told me that it usually ran in the family.

3. After my third period at the age of 13, I went on birth control. I will
be 20 in July, and I stopped taking it last month
to begin my Depo Lupron shots.

4. Yes, I used both pads and tampons.

5. Bad periods, painful urination, painful sex, cramps everyday whether
I was having a period or not. My doctor told me that these could all be signs of endo.
6. Yes. Some people tell me that the Depo shot works, and my doctor
sounded so sure about it all, but everywhere that I read, it says that
nothing has worked for them. I am worried about all this. I am 19 years
old. I think I am too young to have something like this happen, and I
wonder "why me", and I really wish it would all go away. Is there ever
going to be a cure out there? Maybe someone should start up an organization
dedicated to finding a cure/raising money for endometriosis research.

7. Yes, I have. The more support sites out there for this, the better. So
many people are suffering from this, it's horrible.

8. Birth control pills (Ortho Evra and Alyesse), Ortho Evra patch, Depo
Lupron shot (currently) with Aygestin pills. Nothing seems to alleviate my
pain. I just started the Depo shot about a month ago, so I will give that
time to set in with my body before I pass judgments.

9. I am 19, and I would like to have kids. If this doesn't work out
(depo-lupron), where should I go from there? Surgery? My doctor suggested
a hysterectomy, but I can't bring myself to do that before I have children.

Do you have any advice? All advice, information, etc. is GREATLY welcomed!

1.)Did you have problems obtaining a diagnosis of Endometriosis?

**No, I first went to the doctor at 16 when my periods were very abnormal
and painful. My doctor, Magdalene Karon, is an OB/GYN as well as a fertility
specialist. She is the best! If anyone lives near the Lexington, KY area,
you should really look into this doctor. Office #
(859) 277-3135 (Central Baptist Hospital) She is the best!

2.)Do you have any family members with Endometriosis?

**Yes, two aunts, and both have had hysterectomies.

3.)Are you a DES daughter?

**?

4.)Were you every on Birth Control in your lifetime? If so for how long?

**I have been on SEVERAL birth control pills as well as depo-provera. My doctor
also tried me on depo-lupron, but that was awful! A lot of it is about
process of elimination. The depo-lupron is a six month treatment where you
get a shot once a month. The treatment puts your body in menopause.
The bleeding stopped, but the side affects that come along with menopause
were not too much fun, especially for an 18 year old!

5.)Did you use tampons or pads during your period?

**I only wore tampons when very necessary, but my first four days on my
period consisted of wearing two SUPER-PLUS pads at the same time, and I
would have to change them every hour to hour and a half.

6.)What symptoms do you/did you have, associated with Endometriosis?

**VERY sharp, burning sensations, HORRIBLE periods, blood clots, irritable
bowel syndrome, which led to a colonoscopy, and
horrible aching throughout my entire lower region.

7.)Are there any issues you are confused about regarding endometriosis?

**No, I have had it for so long, nine years to be
exact, that I am pretty familiar with the disease.

8.)Do you know about the Endometriosis Association?

**Yes, I have reviewed information from the association
quite a few times and have found it to be very helpful.

9.)What treatments have you tried to alleviate
or cure your endometriosis?

**I have had 10 videolaparoscopy's, 7 DNC's, and all of the listed meds above.
I am having a total hysterectomy in May '04 and I feel very comfortable with
this decision. I had my last laparoscopy not even two months ago, and the
endo is back head on! I have twin daughters that are almost three, so I have
known for quite a while that my husband and I would not have any more children.
I only have one ovary left because my left ovary was removed after it was
severely damaged after a cyst that was three times the size of the ovary
destroyed it. I am a bit nervous, but I am so ready to rid my body of the
things that only causes it pain and more pain. I know my doctor and I
will find a treatment that works well for me. I am ready for this surgery!!!!!

10.)Are you aware that taking estrogen replacement after a hysterectomy for
endometriosis can cause any remaining endo growths to continue
to bleed and cause pain, inflammation and scarring?

**My doctor is currently explaining all of my options and the ones which
she recommends. Hey, that woman can tell me to jump and I will say
how high? She has been so good TO me and FOR me!

11.) Do you have any advice or anything you'd like
to share with other women who have endo?

**Just know your options! Make sure you have a doctor that works with many
women with this disease. If you ever have a doubt, get a second opinion!
That is how I found my wonderful doctor! Keep up with your laparoscopy's and
take your birth control on a regular basis at the same time every day!
There is also a diet you can follow that works for some people,
I was not included in that fortunate bunch.

12.)Any information I can help you with?

*No, thank you. Thank you so much for donating these services to the
thousands of endo sufferers out there. It's good to know we are only
a click away to relating to others like ourselves.
Thanks!

12.)Any information I can help you with?

Finding out more about bioidentical hrt......it is really interesting to me

1.)Did you have problems obtaining a diagnosis of Endometriosis?

**No, my OB/GYN felt some strangeness going in a pelvic exam after I

My tube and ovary were scarred onto the back of my uterus. After that Lap
I was diagnosed with Endo. That was 19 years ago.

2.)Do you have any family members with Endometriosis?

**Not that I know of. Mom had PCOS and had a hysterectomy at age 27.

3.)Are you a DES daughter?

**No

straighten out a hormone imbalance that left me with a constant period.

**Pain, and lots of it. Now I have pain from ovulation
through my period, for about three weeks.

**yes, and that frightens me. I am considering hysterectomy
since I am sick of the gynecological problems and am age 41.

11.) Do you have any advice or anything you'd like
to share with other women who have endo?

**Don't let the disease take you over. I know it hurts, but don't
let it defeat you. Keep fighting.

12.)Any information I can help you with?

**Right now I am researching what my best option is. Just had another
LAP (#5) and D&C for pain and excessive bleeding. I now have a fibroid
that is in the muscle wall of my uterus along with everything else.
Doctor has suggested a hysterectomy given the
condition of my uterus, tubes and ovaries.

1.)Did you have problems obtaining a diagnosis of Endometriosis?

**Yes. Misdiagnosis of Breast Cancer at age 12, it was fibrocystic disease. Later
misdiagnosis of having ARC or Aids Related Complex took the tests faithfully and
it wasn't that. Finally, after a laparoscopic surgery found the cause Endometriosis.

endometriosis can cause any remaing endo growths to continue to bleed and
cause pain, inflammation and scarring?

**Yes.

11.) Do you have any advice or anything you'd like
to share with other women who have endo?

**Yes. I suffered from frequent Yeast infections. I changed my habits and
stopped taking baths, going swimming, and using any type of product that
introduces water deeply into my uterus. I also watch the type of toilet paper
I use - meaning I often bring my own to public places in my purse. I don't know
if it is just something natural in me that changed or if it was due to eliminating
the things above but, I haven't had a yeast infection
in over 5 years since I started doing that for myself.

1.)Did you have problems obtaining a diagnosis of Endometriosis?

**Yes, I was not diagnosed with endometriosis until I had a procedure called
endometrial ablation with a laparoscopy. I had this procedure because of heavy periods.

2.)Do you have any family members with Endometriosis?

**No.

3.)Are you a DES daughter?

**I'm not sure.

6.)What symptoms do you/did you have, associated with Endometriosis?

**During the time I ovulate I have a great deal of pain on my right side.
Before I was diagnosed, the pain would lead me to think I needed to go
to the ER. During my period I have heavy bleeding (really heavy) and the
severe pain (mostly the right side), fatigue and I do have anemia.

7.)Are there any issues you are confused about regarding endometriosis?

**I was just diagnosed so I am trying to understand if a hysterectomy is best.
My doctor told me that she wasn't able to perform the endometrial ablation because
of the severity of the endometriosis. She said I should be scheduled for a
hysterectomy right away. I am currently scheduled for surgery at the end of October.

8.)Do you know about the Endometriosis Association?

**No I didn't know about it. I will definitely check it out.

9.)What treatments have you tried to alleviate or cure your endometriosis?

**While preparing for the ablation I was given several shots over a period
of time of depo lupron. That stopped my heavy flow and seemed to alleviate
my symptoms for a short time. I was told after I was
diagnosed they also use depo lupron for endometriosis.

10.)Are you aware that taking estrogen replacement after a hysterectomy
for endometriosis can cause any remaining endo growths to continue
to bleed and cause pain, inflammation and scarring?

**I am aware of this because I read your story on
your website. Thanks for the information!

11.) Do you have any advice or anything you'd like
to share with other women who have endo?

7.)Are there any issues you are confused about regarding endometriosis?

**nope

8.)Do you know about the Endometriosis Association?

**yes

9.)What treatments have you tried to alleviate or cure your endometriosis?

**birth control pills, depo prevera

10.)Are you aware that taking estrogen replacement after a hysterectomy for endometriosis
can cause any remaining endo growths to continue to bleed and cause pain, inflammation and scarring?

**yes, but I'm staying off of it for six months

11.) Do you have any advice or anything you'd like to share with other women who have endo?

**read and study everything and get with others who are going through the same thing,
weigh your options very carefully. What may be good for someone may not be good for you.

12.)Any information I can help you with?

**endo after hysterectomy
