There is no better teacher than ~Experience~

1.)Did you have problems obtaining a diagnosis of Endometriosis?
**Yes. I was going to the doctor every other week to
get relief. After 3 1/2 years, I FINALLY found someone
who believed me. He believed me because he found an 8
centimeter cyst/growth on my right ovary.

2.)Do you have any family members with Endometriosis?
**NO.

3.)Are you a DES daughter?
**YES!

4.)Were you on birth control in your lifetime?
If so, how long?
**I was on birth control pills for 15 - 20 years.
Even after they told me I couldn't have children, I
was taking the Pill to try to ease the symptoms
of the endometriosis.

5.)Did you use tampons or pads during your period?
**Tampons mostly

6.)What symptoms do you/did you have, associated with
Endometriosis?
**Constant pain, cramping, diarrhea, irritable bowel,
nausea, depression, irritability

7.)Are there any issues you are confused about regarding endometriosis?
**Not really. I'm pretty well at the end of my journey
with endometriosis. I went to the doctor yesterday and
he found large endometriomas and fibroid tumors.
The hysterectomy has been scheduled.

8.)Do you know about the Endometriosis Association?
**No.

9.)What treatments have you tried to alleviate or
cure your endometriosis?
**Laparotomy-laparoscopy-standard birth control
pills-Synarel-Lupron

10.)Any information I can help you with?
**I would like any information on surgical menopause
that you have. I am so afraid that this isn't going
to work. Oh, I know that the pain from the endometriosis
should go away, but I may be trading one problem for another.

Thanks so much for the chance to express my feelings.

11.)Any information I can help you with??
**The only thing I am concerned with right now is
if I will get my sex drive back I am a little
scared about that.

Thank you for your site I love it!!!!

1.)Did you have problems obtaining a diagnosis
of Endometriosis?
**Not really - I had gone to an infertility
specialist when I was 22-23 yrs. old / 10 yrs
ago. He had diagnosed it then

2.)Do you have any family members with Endometriosis?
**Not that I'm aware of

**Yes If so for how long?

7.)Are there any issues you are confused about

**With the advancement of technology & medicine
today, it truly baffles me that they are unable to
find the reason or cure for the disease. But, then
again, it doesn't surprise me.

8.)Do you know about the Endometriosis Association?
**Unfortunately, not until now. I've been so
frustrated that for several years now my head has
been buried in the sand.

9.)What treatments have you tried to alleviate or
cure your endometriosis?
**Two Laparoscopies - One Laparodomy - Two times for
the Lupron shots. The first time was after my first
surgery/surgeries (that was when the specialist
had decided that a Laparoscopy would not enable
him to clean out the disease, hence the Laparodomy)
I was on Lupron for 6mo. After the second
Laparoscopy, I was on Lupron for 1yr. Please keep
in mind, however, I was aware that it was never to
cure the disease, but only to alleviate or arrest
the disease.

10.)Are you aware that taking estrogen replacement
after a hysterectomy for endometriosis can cause
any remaining endo growths to continue to bleed and
cause pain, inflammation and scarring?
**No, I wasn't aware of it. My head is out of the
sand now - ready to face the inevitable and I was
thinking it was going to be a hysterectomy, now
I'm not so sure. I have my first appointment
w/ an Ob/Gyn after several years this Monday.

11.)Any information I can help you with?
**I'm not sure, probably a lot. I will look into
the Endometriosis Association and do more research.
I have been depressed, frustrated and apprehensive
for a long time - too long. It's been ten years
now, since I was diagnosed with the disease and I
have gone through one miscarriage for certain.
With the surgeries and what-not, I know that the
disease has only progressed not digressed. I have
accepted the terms of not being able to conceive
naturally and I no longer want to gamble with
Invitro-fertilization.

other problems that went undiagnosed? We'll never know.

3.)Are you a DES daughter?
**Uncertain. Explain DES?

Authors note: From the following website:Q & A on DES

"DES (diethylstilbestrol) is a synthetic form of estrogen, a female
hormone. It was prescribed between 1938 and 1971 to help women with
certain complications of pregnancy. Use of DES declined in the
1960s after studies showed that it is not effective in preventing
pregnancy complications. When given during the first 5 months of a
pregnancy, DES can interfere with the development of the reproductive
system in a fetus. For this reason, although DES and other estrogens
may be prescribed for some medical problems, they are
no longer used during pregnancy."

1.)Did you have problems obtaining a diagnosis of Endometriosis?
*Yes, yes, yes. I have been to literally 21 doctors over the past 3
and avhalf years. I have had an appendectomy and 2 exploratory
laparoscopies. The second surgery was checking specifically for
endo, and it came up negative. I have been sent to every kind of
doctor/specialist you can imagine. They still are not positive...
all of my tests come up negative (and I have had them all) but my last
exam (with doctor #21) I was told that I have all the classic signs.
My ob-gyn said that it's possible really, really deep inside and that
might be why they never found it before. I've had doctors tell me
it's in my head, that the pain is not real, that the pain is real but
they can't figure it out... it's very frustrating not
knowing what is wrong with me.

2.)Do you have any family members with Endometriosis?
**No.

3.)Are you a DES daughter?
*I don't know what DES is...

4.)Were you every on Birth Control in your lifetime? If so for how long?
**Yes I have been on ortho-tricyclen for approximately 7 years
and just stopped a week ago.

5.)Did you use tampons or pads during your period?
**Both.

6.)What symptoms do you/did you have, associated with Endometriosis?
**My main complaint is horrible, severe pain in my right lower abdomen.
It is always there, but gets worse (without fail) the week before
my period. I had some IBS symptoms at the beginning of the pain
3 and a half years ago, but they have pretty much gone away.
I have to take narcotics pretty much every night- it's the only
thing that can relive the pain.

7.)Are there any issues you are confused about regarding endometriosis?
**Not really... I have been doing a lot of research.

8.)Do you know about the Endometriosis Association? (It's a great
source of support and information!)
**I intend to look at it today. :)

9.)What treatments have you tried to alleviate or cure your endometriosis?
**I have tried numerous medications, for every ailment they
thought it might be... including pain killers. I just started
Lupron shots last Thursday. Nothing's happened yet, but I have
been told it might take a while.

10.)Are you aware that taking estrogen replacement after a
hysterectomy for endometriosis can cause any remaing endo growths
to continue to bleed and cause pain, inflammation and scarring?
**I was not aware, but have not done any research on hysterectomies.

11.)Any information I can help you with??
**Have you heard about any tests (besides surgery) to check for
endometriosis? Like I said above, they think I might have it but
if I do it's very, very deep inside....Thanks!

06/02/2002

1.)Did you have problems obtaining a diagnosis of Endometriosis?
**Yes, I had severe chronic pelvic pain for over 5 years before
diagnosis, first surgery to diagnose endo was done to remove large
ovarian cysts that had been present for over 3 years despite BC pills
and other hormonal treatment, endo found as a incidental finding
(when I obtained my records from this doctor he had suspected endo
before surgery but not told me of his suspicions)

2.)Do you have any family members with Endometriosis?
**no

3.)Are you a DES daughter?
**no

**both

6.)What symptoms do you/did you have, associated with Endometriosis?
**Severe bloating, constipation, diarrhea, pelvic pain, inability
to eat from bloating- fullness feeling in abdomen/ pelvic area

7.)Are there any issues you are confused about regarding endometriosis?
**The different hormonal treatments and why doctors canít give
informed consent before administering them, I now have liver
damage because I took danazol without informed consent and
appropriate pre administration testing (liver function testing)

8.)Do you know about the Endometriosis Association?
(It's a great source of support and information!)
**Yes, I am a member

9.)What treatments have you tried to alleviate or cure your endometriosis?
**Laprascopy 2 times, danazol, lupron, continous birth control pills,
TENS for pain relief, motrin, most over the counter
pain meds, vicodin, darvocet

10.)Are you aware that taking estrogen replacement after a
hysterectomy for endometriosis can cause any remaining endo growths
to continue to bleed and cause pain, inflammation and scarring?
**yes

11.)Any information I can help you with?
**Non hormonal treatment of endo- liver damage means I can never
do hormonal treatment again, but donít want to keep having
laparoscopies every few years- risk of adhesions, surgery.
Information on hysterectomy in cases like mine

1.)Did you have problems obtaining a diagnosis of Endometriosis?
**I have had pain for about 5 years now. I was told I had PID.
Then the same doctor told me that my husband was
too large and should be easy during sex.

I go to have my ovary removed.

8.)Do you know about the Endometriosis Association?
(It's a great source of support and information!)
**Not until now.

9.)What treatments have you tried to alleviate or
cure your endometriosis?
**I have had three surgeries (lap) and used the lupron.
During the lupron I even experienced pain. Right now, I am
taking vicodin for pain so I can sleep at night.

ibuprofen about every two to three hours on most days.

I am planning to have a hysterectomy since my boyfriend and I had already
decided that other genetic issues would make it unwise for us to have children.

10.)Are you aware that taking estrogen replacement after a hysterectomy for
endometriosis can cause any reaming endo growths to continue to
bleed and cause pain, inflammation and scarring?
**No I just saw that on the website. Problem is with my size I am a high risk
for osteoporosis so will have to figure out how to deal with this.

11.)Any information I can help you with?
**Any info about dealing with osteoporosis issues
or alternatives to HRT would be good

**Yes!!!!!!!

**One first cousin.

**Pain, pain, and more pain, and heavy bleeding.

**Yes.

9.)What treatments have you tried to alleviate or cure your endometriosis?
**My Endo wasn't diagnosed until after my hysterectomy / oophorectomy.

10.)Are you aware that taking estrogen replacement after a hysterectomy
for endometriosis can cause any remaining endo growths to continue
to bleed and cause pain, inflammation and scarring?
**Yes.

11.) Do you have any advice or anything you'd like
to share with other women who have endo?
**Yes. Search the world over for a compassionate doctor who specializes in
endometriosis. Stop using tampons. Start using natural cotton pads that
are not treated with chlorine. Stop using estrogen of any kind. Stop
bathing with soaps and other products that contain harmful ingredients.
Stop using talcum powder. Use corn starch (unscented) instead.
Stop douching with drug store products. If you must douche, try 6 Tbls.
of 3% hydrogen peroxide in one quart of warm, filtered or distilled water.
Stop taking antibiotics for every yeast infection and bladder infection.
Try natural remedies. Read Dr. John Lee's books about progesterone.
Consider the "estrogen dominant" theory. If you have had a laparoscopy and
you were told that you do not have Endo, but you have all of the symptoms of
Endo, please consider that you might be suffering from Adenomyosis, a
rarer form of Endo that attacks only the uterus. Adenomyosis cannot be
diagnosed until the uterus is removed, cut up, and placed under a microscope.
Do not doubt yourself. You are not a weakling. You are not a cry baby.
You are not crazy. You know your body better than anyone else. Use
common sense. Take every doctor's word with a grain of salt. These are
people who went to medical school. They are not infallible gods.
Rely on your own body's natural wisdom; God put it there for a reason.

12.)Any information I can help you with?
**Why am I always so tired? What can I do about it?

13.)Anything else you need or want to share?
**I am satisfied with my decision to have the surgery. My pain was
debilitating, so I feel that I had no choice. However, I wish that
I would have been more prepared for the emotional and physical consequences
of the surgery. I also wish that I had been better informed of HRT choices.
I do not feel well now. But, I am no longer in pain, and I thank God for that.
I just cannot help but think that if Endo, etc. were a male problem, we would
have so many more answers. My heart goes out to women everywhere
facing hysterectomy and oophorectomy. It burdens my heart.

Probs. obtaining diagnosis? >br> **I had the problem since age 11 no one ever tok my problem serious
enough to get help. After my second child was born the dr. decide
to to a laparoscope and severe endo was found.

** yes, I have taken birth control on and off for 14 years form several

Some days I cannot work.

Do you know about the endometriosis assoc.?
**somewhat but not very much.

**I know there are a lot of pros and cons when dealing with

told that's my only choice, I think I'm confused about all the
situation I'm dealing with, it's taken over my life.

Treatment I have tried
**dieting, depo-provera shots, different kinds of BC pills, more pain
killers than I can think of. Vitamins, meds to stop
bleeding, d&c and laproscopic laser.

estrogen replacement and endo regrowth?
**yes, that's what scares me

Advise for someone with endo?
** all I can say is, my heart goes out to you and if there's anything I
can be of help with feel free to email me:
