With the 12th pick in the 1998 NBA Draft, the Magic selected Utah's Michael Doleac. Orlando also picked UNLV's Keon Clark and Georgia Tech's Matt Harpring with the 13th and 15th picks and Miles Simon with the 42nd pick.

NBA Lockout

Due to the lock-out this years crop of NBA rookies might be a step behind normal rookies. Because of the lockout, teams don't have the ability to sign, negotiate with, or even practice with their players. These circumstances may hinder rookies especially, as they must patrol their own weight programs, practice regimen, and general conditioning, which can sometimes be hard for such young and, in some cases, immature men.

Injuries Prevent Playoff Appearance

After battling injuries all season, the Magic nearly captured their fifth straight playoff berth, but finished the 1997-98 campaign with a 41-41 record, fifth in the Atlantic Division. Nick Anderson led the team in scoring with an average of 15.4 ppg.

Jhane Barnes Selected to Design New Magic Uniforms

The Magic announced on April 8 that Jhane Barnes has been selected to design new uniforms for the Magic's 10th anniversary season in 1998-99.

Orlando GM John Gabriel recently announced that NBA legend Julius Erving had joined the team's front office as Vice President of RDV Sports and Executive Vice President of the Orlando Magic. Erving also became the first member of the RDV Sportsplex Advisory Board.
