What
is "club" volleyball?
Club Volleyball is a program designed to give volleyball players an
additional opportunity to compete in the game of volleyball. There are
various different priorities within different clubs. Our priorities are to
provide a players the opportunity to improve their individual skills, gain
valuable experience and provide competitive situations in practice and in
tournaments. It is an off-season volleyball program that strives to
challenge the athletes to improve and mature as volleyball players. Whether
a player is graduating from high school and preparing themselves for the
collegiate level, still at the junior high or high school level the club
program helps the athlete become more skillful and experienced for her next
upcoming season.
How much does playing club
cost?
Travel team tuition is $950, for Club teams $550 and developmental $350.
What
does the tuition for playing club cover?
The tuition for the Blaze Volleyball Club covers coaching fees, tournament entry
fees, uniforms and equipment. It does not cover food, hotels or
transportation to and from tournaments.
Are there fundraising opportunities to
help offset the cost of playing club?
Yes, the Blaze VBC provides several different avenues for the player to raise
money for playing club. One is the Media Guide that the Blaze VBC
publishes every year.
The players can sell ads for the Media Guide and all the proceeds go to the
player's account. There is also the Scrip program. More information
about the Scrip program will be posted on a separate page shortly. The players can also sell Entertainment Books.
What
is the difference between a "club" team and "travel" team?
Club teams are geared more for the beginning volleyball player and travel
teams for the more experience and serious player. Club teams are also for
those players who may not want to make the full commitment to play on a travel
team but still wants to improve their skills. All teams play in an
average of two tournaments per month, however the club teams play in one day
tournaments while the travel teams play in 2 and 3 day tournaments. Club
teams do not typically stay overnight at tournaments. Most of the club
team's tournaments are within 2-3 hours drive. There will be no
"club" teams at the 17's and 18 and under age groups.
Why do we have tryouts?
We have tryouts to select the best players for the travel teams
and if there is more than one team per age division at the club level to select
a #1 and #2 team for that age group.
How often are practices?
All teams practice two days per week. Until the school
basketball seasons are over in early February there is no set schedule for
practices. We have to work around the schools' schedule. After the
basketball season is over all teams will have a set schedule of
practices. Practices are typically on Tuesdays and Thursday with some
teams practicing on Mondays/Wednesdays due to court availability.
What
time are practices held?
Again until basketball season is over there also is not a set
time, however most of the younger teams will practice from 5-7 p.m. and the
older teams practice from 7-9 p.m.
How many tournaments does a team play in a month?
Each team is scheduled for two tournaments per month with the
travel team sometimes playing 3 in a month usually in March or April.
I play a school sport, can I still play club?
Absolutely.
There
is a conflict between my school sports and Club. Which one comes first?
Your school sport(s) take priority over Club. We strive to
maintain a good relationship with all the schools in the area and with coaches
of other sports. We do not and would not put any pressure on an athlete to
skip a school sport to attend a club practice or tournament.
