I saw The Lion King yesterday and it brought tears to my eyes. Not the scene you’d expect for that, just the beginning, where they are building Mufasa’s character. If Seven had been a lion, he would have been Mufasa. Strong, yet always choosing kindness when there was a choice. From babies to puppies, kittens to bunnies, everything knew and felt safe with him. I don’t know a single person who met him who didn’t like him. If there are dog saints, he was one.
He was with me for 14 years and change. Those 14 years were the hardest ones of my life, but he made them a little easier. A tumultuous marriage, the loss of my mom and grandma, several moves, and all the stress and emotions that come along with those things, and he was always steady and there for me. Every time my world fell apart, I could lean on him.
He was my first show dog, my first champion. He made wonderful puppies with his amazing temperament. He humored me enough to get a rally obedience title, something not easily done with an Anatolian. Certainly not least, he welcomed Ravenna (Tifany's daughter) and his patience with her knew no bounds.
It’s been almost a week, and I’m still not used to coming home and not seeing the face that greeted me for nearly 15 years. He was a big dog, but his presence was vastly larger, and this house seems so very empty without him.
