Let me tell you a little about myself. I was born James Lee Phillips on December 16, 1973 in the Bronx, New York. My father was a police officer in Manhattan. Among other things he was an author and bodyguard for numerous people including Robert DeNiro, Burt Young (they remain friends until today), Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Farah Fawcett, Al Pacino, and lastly, the legendary Bruce Lee. He had admired the great actor and martial artist. They, being born on the same day (November 27), have always seemed, to me, bonded in some spiritual way. And as such, I was named James Lee Phillips. I, too, have been intrigued and inspired by the great legend. His spirit, I have felt, has been with me through good times and bad, whether pertaining to martial arts or otherwise. I took up a great interest in the man as a young boy. I remember watching his movies and hearing my father speak of him. I would always tell my father I wanted to meet him, always getting a response that he had passed away. I could never understand that being he was right there on the screen. I was just 5 years old. I started in the martial arts at the age of 10 in South Florida. I trained under Fred Villari, I am not sure as to the status of his schools at the present time. At this point in time I was focused more on the physical aspects of the arts. When I was 12 the school I attended was shut down. The nearest school was in Pompano, Florida some 15 miles away. I ceased to train under Mr. Villari. At the age of 13 I began training in the art of Ninjutsu. However, I am not clear if it was actually Ninjutsu. I am now 23 and haven't trained physically in some time. I took up other things. Boxing, body-building, etc. Until this day I still study my mentor and friend Bruce Lee. I apply his Philosophy and thoughts to my every day activities. I am dedicating this, my first, web page to the late, great Bruce Lee and everything he stood for. At the present time I will be returning to my martial arts training solo. I am looking for a school, must be certified, of Jeet Kune Do so that I may better understand Bruce's philosophy, art, training, nutrition, and overall way of life.
