Launch-pad-39A:
From Apollo to Space Shuttle 1976-1979






A piece of the launch tower is transported along the crawler way to pad 39A in August, 1976.



The Space Shuttle launch tower is being erected at pad 39A in August, 1976.



Mobile Launch Platform no.2 was used during the building of the "new" pad 39A. This was done to make sure a MLP would fit at the "new" launch pad.
(note that the Apollo launch tower is still atached to the MLP)

Space Shuttle Enterprise (OV-101) was rolled out to launch pad 39A in April 1979. The transfer from the VAB to pad 39A took almost 11 hours to complete. Then testing, fit and function checks took place on May 01, 1979.
