Chapter 7

The metal vial spun off through space in no particular direction. Its precious contents coming precariously close to many things in space that could have crushed, consumed, absorbed, captured and destroyed it.

In the quiet still cold of space it floated onward for who knows how long unknown, forgotten, lost to travel the greatest reaches of space until it was captured in the weak gravity of a sattelite moon of a planet to float slowly and safely down to the surface at a rate of speed that did not destroy it. The reflective surface sparkling when the sun of that moons solar system glistened off of it until it slowly was covered by the dust of the moon.

And it sat and it waited to be discovered. Until one day as if the hand of God reached out and found what was once was lost to be found.

JESUS CHRIST! was heard over the radio.

What is it?

I hit something. It tore up the mining equipment. It’s jammed or something. I thought this stuff was guaranteed to be indestructible.

Yeah well back it up it is probably just over loaded.

Bayman backed up the mining equipment and got out to look. He picked up the vial which was about the length of his arm. The surface was shiney and obviously not bedrock. Something manufactured.

Are you sure we are the only ones who have claimed this area and mined here? Like I don’t want to be violating anyones contractural space with the ISO.

Yeah we are the ones who hold the contract. Cost enough. We need to hit some pay dirt to make back the initial investment or the stock holders will be plenty mad. Why?

Take a look at this, I’ll hold it up to the viewer area.

Holy crud. We need to contact ISO look at all the graphics on the side of that thing. Can you read any of it?

No it looks like some sort of interlocking design with a sun pattern repeated on it over and over again.

Oh its probably one of those time capsule things that all those people use to send out to space to talk to aliens or leave something behind to remind the future of the past. Well maybe we can sell it at the auction after it is priced. Bring it back inside when you finish loading up the ores that are worth anything after seperation. That figures why this area showed to have some worth for buying the mining rights. So far that is the best we have found on this really low level ore planet. I sure hope we can get enough back on this to make up for having selected such a poor sight for mining.

Bayman checked out the mining equipment it seemed to be functioning fine after removing the vial. He finished up the sorting process and headed on back to the living space.

Bayman and Dorz began the long steady process of reporting their find to the ISO and staking thier claim. They also began the analysis process for selling the vial on the standard auction for ISO buyers. They sent in close up images of the graphics.

A few days later the ISO came back with claims to the vial, and the mining rights to the planet were revoked, along with a substantial fee for the cost of the mining expedition. Bayman and Dorz were told to return as soon as possible to turn in the find and the contract to the satellites mining rights.

Sheess isn’t that a blessing they took it off of our hands. I was sure that we would be lucky to make enough to pay back the stock holders with that poor mining site.

Yeah really lucky. I wonder why they now think it is worth something. There is no other indication of any ore rich sites on that sattelite. Shame we accidentally homed in on that one vial so much that we thought it was worth a great deal.

Yeah what a blessing.

The next year the entire area in that solar system was made off limits to all mining and settlement groups by the ISO.
