Chapter 2

"What's going on!?" yelled Tad as he skidded into the main room. A chair was overturned, and blood was spilled all over the room. A body laying on the floor, 'face' up. But even at his distance, Tad could see that the man's face was completely blown off. At point blank, no doubt.

Tad ran over to the body, afraid that it might be Skan. No, it was some else...

An elf!!

Tad growled as he stood up. Skan was no where to be seen. Elves! Damn!

"Skaaan!" Tad called, cupping his hands to his lips. "Skan! Where are you!?" Nothing. "Damnit!" His brother, abducted! By freaking ELVES!

Tad ran out through an open door, one that he figured that the elves had gone through. And sure enough, a large group of elves was migrating out, to another group of griffons. Their ride, probably. In the midst, Tad could see Skan, dragged limply.

"Get your grimy hands off of him!" Tad roared, his hatred for the elves boiling up. Three of the elves broke free from their group, hardly noticed. Tad growled. Did these damnable elves think that only three were needed!?

The three elves slowly advanced on him. One was carrying an axe, another a flail, and the third carried a sword. Tad wasted no time, he charged the elves, pure murder on his mind.

The elves obviously did not expect such an attack. Tad had already smashed his fist into one elves face, and spun around, driving his foot into another's stomach. The third, the one with the sword, brought his weapon down in a powerful stroke. Tad lifted his arms in a crossed stance, and the sword clanked harmlessly off his bracers. With his two hands together, Tad smacked that elf in the face, then drove his palm into the elvesn nose.

The elf with the axe, recovering quickly from his blow, lifted it's axe for a killing blow. Tad's foot shot out from behind him and caught the elf in the throat. The elf gurgled and fell, as he choked on his own blood. That left the last elf. Tad kicked him in the face, then grabbed him by the collar, pulling him close.

"What the hell are you doing with my brother!?" he snarled.

The elf was silent. Tad shook him a little bit, violently, then the elf started talking. "Alright! A ransom! You have a rich brother, boy. We are taking him to Halfmoon Mountains to-" The elf cut off abruplty, aware that he had given away his location.

Tad was also aware. "You idiot! You just old me-"

Tad's voice was cut short as a dagger was driven into his knee. He gasped in surprise more than pain. But pain was also a very large factor. "You bastard!" Tad roared, throwing the elf down. Before the elf could get up and attack with it's concelaed knife, Tad pulled free his C-14 Rifle. He jammed it into the elve's forehead, and the elf froze. He swallowed thickly.

"You damned little elf!" Tad snarled. "Beg for my forgivness!"

The elf was no idiot. He knew the power of the gun. "I-I am sorry... I cannot possible-"

"That's enough!" Tad interupted, then pulled the trigger. With the gun so close to the elve's head, it had no trouble blasting straight through and into the ground behind it. The man fell down, completely decapitated.

Tad looked up. The griffon's were gone. Damnit!

Limping inside, Tad knew were to go. To Silvara's!

* * *

Tad knocked at Silvara's door. When she opened it, he immediately swept her up in a kiss.

"Hi, Tad!" she said when the kiss was completed, a bit breathless. "What a surprise!"

Silvara Erreden was the most beautiful woman Tad had ever seen. If a bit short. You see, Silvara is only about four feet tall because of her heritage. Some siren, some elf (which Tad tried to ignore), some firewolf, but mostly fairy and human. Because of this, she was much shorter than Tad. But he didn't care.

The oddest thing about her was her hair. It was bright red, but a single silver lock that Tad just loved adorned the front. And he thought he could spend all day trying to figure out whether her eyes were green or blue.

"Well..." Tad said, scratching the back of his neck. He was told that he looked like Skan when he did that. "This is an odd situation..." he started, but Silvara smiled and opened her door all the way.

"Come in, Tad," she said. He obediently limped in, and took a seat.

"Thanks!" said Tad brightly. Then his mood changed. "Umm... Skan was kidnapped!" he said bluntly, deciding not to dwell. "By elves!"

Silvara had started when she heard about Skan's being kidnapped, but sighed and shook her head when Tad mentioned elves. "Tad... we talked about this!"

This made Tad a bit angry. "I wasn't seeing things! I'm not lying!"

Silvara nodded, and sat down next to him. "Tad, I am sure you would not lie. But six years ago, you suffered a very bad experience with elves. It is sure to leave you scarred!"

Tad sighed. "Silvara, he WAS abducted, and by elves! Look!" Tad pulled up his pants-a clean pair-to show his knife wound. Silvara gasped.

"Tad, why didn't you say something?" she put her hands on the wound and closed her eyes. She glowed white, and the wound closed up entirely.

"I dunno..." said Tad, feeling a bit stupid. To remedy the situation, he changed the subject. "We have to go save Skan!"

Silvara nodded. "Yes. But first, we have to wait a while."

"Wait? For what!? My brother is out there, with ELVES!" Tad pleaded. Silvara put a hand on his knee and he calmed down instantly.

"Deric Longbow is coming over to return something of mine..." she said, chewing her lip. Tad growled.

"Deric? The elf?"

Silvara nodded. "Tad, he isn't like the elves you know. He's a nice man, and he has something of mine. Look-"

She was interupted by a knocking at the door. "That must be him," she said sweetly. "Stay here, Tad."

Tad didn't. He got up and walked to the door with Silv, in case he needed to protect her. Silv sighed in exapseration, but didn't say anything.

Tad made sure he was the one to open the door. And sure enough, there stood Deric Longbow.

Tad hated all elves, and Deric was no exception. Even if there WAS a begrudging alliance, Tad did not like the elf.

Deric was tall for an elf, but shorter than Tad still. He had long silver hair, with pointy ears, one pierced, spearing through. His clothing was a simple tunic, cinched tight at the waist with a belt, and hanging right above his knees. Tad often made fun of Deric's clothing, until Silv told him to stop. A knife was tucked into one of Deric's kne length boots. Two swords were strapped to his back, crossed in an X formation, with the hilts of both swords coming over Deric's shoulders. At his side, attached to his belt, was a broken sword, not sheather. Runes filled the foot of blade left before they were cut off by the jagged, broken end of the sword.

"Why, Tad, I didn't know you would be here!" said Deric with an honest smile. But Tad was sure that it was mocking him.

"Did you bring my knife?" asked Silv anxiously. Deric laughed.

"Yes, yes, here it is," he said, withdrawing a knife from the back of his belt. It was also carved with ruins. "It took me a lot to get the elders to make it, so don't lose it!"

Silv nodded, smiling. "Thank you, Deric. Oh, please, come in."

Deric grinned at Tad, totally aware of the discomfort he was causing to him. "Don't mind if I do," he said.

Tad growled. He clenched a fist tightly. "Silv, we are supposed to be finding Skan!"

"Finding Skan? asked Deric, confused. "What's going on?"

"Skan was kidnapped, by a tribe of elves," said Silv. Obviously Tad's wound was enough to convince her.

"Well?" asked Deric. "Why are we still here?"

"What?" asked Tad, completely aware of and afraid of the answer.

"Of course I'm going with you!" said Deric. "Skan's my friend too. Come on! No time like the present!"
