Conformity

I think that very few things are sadder than people changing themselves entirely to look or act better. To be accepted into a group, people will change what they like and don't like. I have two excellent examples, here.
I have a friend, name withdrawn, who is a HUGE wannabe. And in the 7th grade, when he got a girlfriend and some skills at basketball, it went straight to his head. Now, he was too cool for other stuff that he liked to do only weeks before, like play Pokémon and work on a webpage. HFIL, he acts like a friend, but I don't know why. We aren't friends any more. He DISGUSTS me, now.

I have another friend, who is still an actual friend, who is actually going down the same road. He pretends he doesn't like certain things or DOES like certain other things just to be accepted into a certain social group. What the HFIL, huh? Why do people pretend to be different to be with "cool" people?

Personally, I hardly give a fuck about what others think. I'm a geek, yeah, but not a WANNABE. And you wouldn't believe how much of a difference this puts between me and friend #2, despite our countless other similarities. I have friends who are popular and athletic, but I don't care if I'm in their group or not. People know I like Dragon Ball and Pokémon and that I don't like most music. People know lots, none of it being like. And whether or not they agree, they DO think higher of my because I don't make this shit up. Whats the point of belonging to a group that you have to change your identity to be in?

I'd like to add one last thing, just to drive home how EVERYONE is affected by the major population. Is the world round? Yes. Do you have proof?

I'll be most of you don't. Yeah, sure there are globes, but there's maps, too. Yeah, your text books says it is true, but your text books leave a lot of stuff out (see American Pride). And do not believe everything your teachers tell you, I know from experience that they do NOT know everything. So, where is your proof? Have you literally travelled around the world? And not from country to country, because that's possible on a map. Yes, it's a proven fact of science, but how about you? Do you accept it only because everyone else does?
