Full Name: Densetsu Guatoir Lumin (den-SET-soo GWAW-tor LOO-men)
Weaponary/Powers
Densetsu's primary weapon is a naginata, a Japanese weapon somewhat like a blue shafted spear, but with a sword end in place of a spear point. Densetsu is a complete master of this weapon, as well as hand to hand fighting with martial arts.
History
Densetsu was born in a typical family, two parents, an older sister and an older brother. However, because of some gambling debts his father had gotten into, his family was slaughtered, when Den was nothing more than a young boy. He survived only because of his inherent physical strengths and the carelessness of the bandits who attacked his family.
Densetsu is taken in and healed back to full health by an old man, who's name is unknown even today. Densetsu remembered calling him only "Grandfather", though knew very well that there is no blood relation between the two. Grandfather taught Densetsu to fight and his system of honor; a very strict code. Densetsu, wanting never to kill a man so as to prevent others the pain he felt upon the death of his family, chose to learn only the martial arts and the qurterstaff, both non-lethal weapons if used with care. As time passed by, so did Grandfather, already an old man. Heart complications made Densetsu alone once more.
Not knowing what to do, Densetsu went off to find and kill the bandits that slaughtered his innocent family. However, he did not even know what they looked like, and was eventually drafted into the army. He was given a mandatory spear, because of his skill with the quarterstaff, and thrust into the Blue Spears military regiment. Among the men in his squad were Kojiro Ayame, Thom Seladon, Skan Erreden, and Devlin Regni.
Because of the losses in his life, Densetsu had withdrawn socially. While his honor still kept him from being a jerk, and his excellent fighting skills made him a respected man, Densetsu kept to himself always. Until het met Lilly.
Lilly was a pilot, and a pacifist. At first, her clashing personalities kept Den at a distance, but the two eventually drew close, and fell in love.
Because of his exceptional fighting skills, Densetsu was forcibly taken into the laboratory of a slightly crazed scientist. The man raised Densetsu's physical and magical abilities expotentially, using one to increase the other infinitely. When he awoke after the operation, Densetsu went crazy with the power, and went on a massive rampage. Only an intervention of Lilly, and quick work by the mad wizard, turned Densetsu back "to normal". However, the wizard, unwilling to destroy his "creation", took only Densetsu's given magic abilities, leaving all of his increased fighting skills (at least, as much as could be without the magic to enhance it). When he came to, and found out about the scientist's "dishonorable" feats, Densetsu killed the man.
At one point in his career as a soldier, Densetsu was hired to kill a rampaging dragon. Lilly, however, pleaded for him not to go. Den ignored her, and left. However, she followed, putting herself at extreme risk. When Densetsu found out she's stowed away in his mobile suit, the Rigamortis, he became furious. Asking his friend, Devlin, to watch her until he came back, Densetsu left to complete his mission.
But when he came back, destruction greeted him. Sapphire WEAPON, one of the five monsters that the war was being waged against, had gone on a rampage. Among the first dead bodies Densetsu saw was Ryushi Kaijonari, an ally and somewhat a friend. Densetsu took Ryushi's blue naginata and promised to keep his honor alive in combat forever.
However, honor was the last thing on his mind when he returned to Lilly. Devlin had survived the attack, but she was not so lucky. In a blind rage, Densetsu killed his friend in cold blood, then left.
Life meant nothing to Densetsu. His honor was destroyed, yet he held desperately onto a few fragments. He never tells a lie, he never kills innocent men, and he always kept his promises, no matter the cost. Because he had killed an innocent man, and 'allowed' Lilly to die Densetsu went off on a suicide mission, in the Rigamortis, to kill the Sapphire WEAPON.
He was not very successful, as a suicide mission. Displaying extraordinary skills as a pilot, Densetsu actually killed the WEAPON single handedly, cleanly cutting out one fifth of the opposing force of the war. This event gave him the title "Shinigami".
Knowing his honor, or the little bit he held onto, kept him from killing himself, Densetsu became a mercenary. He was famous for killing Sapphire WEAPON, and every mission he completed brought him more and more fame. One mission, however, changed his solitary attitude. He was to kill two dragons, a red and a black. After successfully killing the red dragon, he was whisked away by the black one.
The black dragon, Mahktar, both respected and feared Densetsu, especially since the mercenary so easily killed Ambyr, the red dragon. He agreed to work with Densetsu, as Den knew that a black dragon as a mount would serve well, both in combat and in making him look better.
Then, Den joined the Engineer's Guild, led by Skan Erreden, the same man from the Blue Spears. However, not two months afterwards, Densetsu was given a job by a man named Bart to betray and destroy the Engineer's Guild. Densetsu did so, creating the spark between Skan and him that would turn into a huge inferno of hatred.
Time passed. Skan, believing Mahktar responsible for the death of his own pet black dragon (though a baby), killed the great wyrm, Densetsu's only companion and friend. This only added fuel to the ever growin fire
Densetsu was later given the chance to finally claim his vengeance on Skan. A man named Retsim Rollef hired him to kill the leader of the Engineer's Guild. At the cost of the Rigamortis, Densetsu succeeded.
However, he realized that what he felt towards Skan was not hatred. It was friendship; yet Densetsu, never having a true friend except for Lilly, did not know how to interpret it. Skan realized the truth just as Densetsu killed him. After Skan's death, Densetsu realized what he had done, and fled.
Again, he went through an emotional crisis. Densetsu did not want to live, but his code of honor kept him from killing himself. Instead, he took another "suicide mission" to kill two of the strongest demons of the Underworld - a Balor and a Marilith, along with eleven other mercenary's. Once more, Densetsu's magnificent fighting abilities kept him from death, along with the healing abilities of Rayne Cirrus, the only other surviving mercanary. But the battle did not keep Densetsu unmarked, the Balor left a scar along his torso filled with the essence of evil. It is impossible even for the greatest of healers to completely cure.
Identifying with his skills, Rayne requested to work with Densetsu, as mercenary partners. Due to his emotionally fragile state, Densetsu accepted, enjoying the company. Only later, when his emotions heal, did he really regret working with somebody else. But Rayne and Densetsu grew to be close friends, even if Densetsu would not admit it.
Miscellaneous
Densetsu is a very suicidal man. He thinks that somebody such as he is an insult to his previous code of honor, and the echo of honor he uses today is a mockery (though to use the full code of honor is an even further mockery); however, this code strictly forbids him to kill himself to to let others kill him without purpose. This is why he takes so many chances and fights so aggressively in battle.
Densetsu is also not very capable of understand positive human emotion, it is almost a fault. When he feels love or respect, he sometimes mistakes it for hatred and fear. Therefore, he keeps as emotionally distant from people as possible.
OOC Notes
Hm. Densetsu's rather cliché, don't you think? And a bit of a powergamer. Fortunately, I have a really nifty-spifty background to explain why he is how he is... so it's much better than it could be!
Despite these clichés, Densetsu is my favorite character. I plan to roleplay him more, and roleplay him better. Less cliché, more original! Yay.
