Just thought I'd add to some of the history about how Red Horse got started in Kunsan. I was at Utapao in the summer of 1975 with the 554th. In
August, I was sent to Kunsan as a 1st Lt. There was a small contingent of Horsemen there since June 1975. The C.O. was Lt Col Lyle Huizenga (not sure
of spelling), who was a C130 pilot who had been grounded for medical reasons and sent to Kunsan to finish his 20 (he didn't make it). NCOIC was Msgt
Coker. There was also a Tsgt Anderson, but I don't think it was you. A month or two after I arrived, Lt Col Huizenga was sent to Greenland by the 554 C.O. Col Winslow. I became acting Det 1 Commander. I continued as Det Commander until January 1976 when Major Dreislein arrived. I continued as Ops and Engineering Officer. Around the first of January 1976, we finished our 100 unit double wide Modulux dorm for our enlisted troops. A 3 star General was there for the ribbon cutting. Don't remember his name. In the meantime, SMsgt Paris and SMsgt Bunch arrived as NCOIC and 1st Sgt, respectively. Bunch made E9 while at Kunsan. Paris and Bunch covertly
converted an old quanset hut into their private party hootch (that's another story). I learned a lot from those two NCO's. I designed the Detachment HQ bldg and the vehicle maintenance bldg but left before they were completed.
Out of time, hope this is helpful.
