BIOGRAPHY

Green Day was a part of the California punk scene.Billie Joe and Mike met in a school cafeteria when they were 10 and later formed a band called Sweet Children when they were 14. By 1989 they got a drummer (former Green Day drummer) Al Sobrante and they changed there name to Green Day. That same year the band released their first EP, 1000 Hours, which was well recieved in the Punk scene. Soon the group signed a contract with the local independant label Lookout! Records. 39/Smooth Green Days first album was released later that year. Shortly after that they replaced Kiftmeyer with Tre' Cool (Frank Edwin Wright lll) to become the permanent drummer for Green Day.

Throughout the 90's, Green Day continued to cultivate a cult-like following, which only gained strength with the release of their second album 1992's Kerplunk. The underground sucess waved an intrest from Major Labels. The band eventually decided to sign with Reprise. Dookie, Green Days major label debut, was released in the spring of 94'. Thanks to MTV's support Dookie became a major hit.At the end of the summer of 94' Green Day stole the show at Woodstock 94' which helped sell more albums. In early 1995 Dookie had sold over 11 million copies.

Green Day quikly followed Dookie with Insomniac in 95'. Which did well and sold what people are saying "only" over 2 million copies of Insomniac. In the Spring of 1996 Green Day cancelled the rest of the European Tour saying they were exausted.

Following the cancellation the band went back to the studio tp work on the newest album Nimrod. The album some critics are saying its Green Days best work. So if you dont already have it...GET IT!!!
