The remaining Witherspoons moved into Gus's home
because Johnny Witherspoon died. They moved from Ft.
Wayne,IN to southern Ca. Though they did have to face a move and a death at almost the same time Jess's family did manage to meet a few friends.
Joe Caplin is Gus's best friend (close by) He lives
next door but is always seen with the Witherspoons
doing things.

Episode description of the day:"Sunday's Hero" Gus and the family and Joe go for a weekend at a cabin that belongs to Gus's friend. There they meet Zach McColough, Gus's Friend's son, who is suppose to be in a football game david bet his bike against.
