I work for ProSoft Engineering Inc. as a Video Tele-Conferencing Technician. Our headquarters is based in Virginia Beach, Va; but we are contracted through the Marine Corps. My office is in a Learning Resource Center aboard the Marine Corps base in 29 Palms, Ca.
The Learning Resource Center is a place for Marines to do their Marine based classes but it also doubles as a computer lab. I work with two other ProSoft employees. We have a computer technician and a senior network administrator.
As a VTC technician I setup video conferencing for individuals or groups. Many of the VTC are for distant learning classes; where a teacher from one location teaches students from various locations through the equipment we use. I have also used the VTC equipment to perform a marriage. The groom was about to go to Iraq and his wife was deaf. With the help of our equipment they were able to see each other and sign their vows to each other
I work 10 hour days Monday – Thursday from 10am to 8pm giving me a three day weekend every week which is nice. My co-workers and I get along great and we often let each other go home early. Working for the Marine Corps instead of being in the Marine Corps has its advantages; but I do miss the Marine Corps way of life from time to time.
