LARGE GROW-OP SEIZED IN CHINA CREEK BC
Sunday Sept 21, 2008 - (Submitted by Trail RCMP to TMTV/BCTV Kootenays) - On September 19, 2008 members of Trail & Greater District Detachment executed a search warrant at a residence in China Creek and located and seized a large, well-equipped marijuana grow operation consisting of in excess of 800 marijuana plants in various stages of growth and the usual growing equipment which included 36 - 1000 watt lights and 42 electrical ballasts.
A 50 year old male and 36 year old female, both relatively new residents of China Creek, were arrested at the residence. Both suspects have been charged with various Controlled Drugs and Substances Act offences including production of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, and theft of electricity.
They are scheduled to appear in Rossland Provincial Court on December 11, 2008. Marijuana grow operations of this magnitude are, without question, linked to higher-level organized criminal activity and are a threat to the safety of our communities. Trail & Greater District Detachment remains committed to actively targeting marijuana grow operations to send the message that this activity is not welcome in our community.
