CHARGES LAID IN CAFE HIT AND RUN

Sunday Sept 21, 2008 - (Submitted by Trail RCMP to TMTV/BCTV Kootenays ) - RCMP previously reported that on July 25, 2008 a vehicle being driven in a dangerous and erratic matter slammed into the side of Cafe Michael seriously injuring two of the employees who were working in the kitchen.  Members of the Trail & Greater District Detachment General Investigation Section and Crime Reduction Unit have spent nearly the past two months conducting an extremely intensive investigation into this incident which has now culminated with an arrest and numerous serious charges being laid.  The investigation was made more complicated by the fact that several persons with knowledge of the incident and who were also acquaintances of the accused were less than forthcoming and cooperative during the investigation.   Brett John STOCK, an 18 year old resident of Trail, has been charged with the following criminal offences:

  1. Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to Section 249(3) of the Criminal Code;
  2. Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident contrary to Section 252(1) of the Criminal Code;
  3. Theft of a Motor Vehicle contrary to Section 334 of the Criminal Code.

We are alleging that after the accident STOCK made his way to the Trail Wal Mart where he stole a vehicle that he utilized to make his escape from the area.   STOCK is currently in custody and is scheduled for his next Court appearance on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at 9:30 a.m.
